Please help me with covering!
I am ready to cover my shrike parts, this is the first time I will cover anything. Just so you guys know I only have a roll of econokote cub yellow. Now how does this covering stick? I noticed it is like heat shrink tubing, it shrinks a bit under heat.. I do not have an airplane iron, only the clothes iron and a hair dryer. I tried to cover the fin as the practice, and I did it, except it came out with a bunch of bubbles and bad spots and stuff. I figure that covering the fuselage will be pretty tough, so can I just paint it with a light coat and give it a fuel proof clear shot before I cover the wings and such?
Please help me out here.. does the covering actually "stick" when heated?
Thanks..

#1, peel the backing off! I know, it sounds silly, but a lot of people have done it. Especially on econokote. Econokote and towerkote both tend to shrink first, then stick! (that's why it it CHEAP...) Cut it oversize. tack down all four corners w/ the tip of your iron. then do edges. then shrink centers. Don't have the iron too hot, or it will shrink like crazy but not stick.
solid surfaces like fuse. are actually easier than wing. do bottom. sides. then top. have iron just hot enough to stick it, and work it around. I wouldn't paint it, just keep at it, observe how it behaves, and you will figure it out.

If you can find an old pair of x-large socks or a nice thin terrycloth towel to wrap around the iron that would be better than a hot iron on the material. and it will save your butt when the wife gets bent out of shape when theres melted econocote all over her house iron LOL Tim
