Some kind of wood
I grabbed some wood from the ole Home Depot,
they had it disguised as clearance bin Decorator Wood Blinds, 31x72 for $15
It is definately some kind of wood,
not real hard, not real heavy, at 2"x1/8"
...some obnoxious slots for the strings but plenty of meat left and you get a stack of like 40 sticks
Anybody try using this stuff, or know what it is?

RE: Some kind of wood
Hey Kid!
Typing "hey Kid" reminded me of the old Guillows (?) ads in the magazines that started out with "Hey, Kid" . . . and then went on to explain how balsa flies better [even though Guillows' models weren't all that great flyers except for the Arrow maybe] - but I digressed didn't I? Anyway . . .
I bought a bunch of those basswood blinds slats from American Science and Surplus when I was ordering other stuff anyway and was curious about what I might be able to do with them.
Made a few HLG fuselages out of one. Then ripped some strips with my scroll saw (hardly worth the time but it was all I could think of). I tried to get as small a piece of wood behind the round eghes as I coud - thinking I could use them as leading edges for something. Like many of my best ideas, I wasn't a resounding success.
I'm really anxious to see what all the people who will climb aboard and provide us with great ideas as to what (the heck) we can do with these things.

RE: Some kind of wood
Thanx for the quick replies guys.
Dunno exactly what I'm gonna do with it,
too heavy for direct balsa replacing, not really enough bi-di strength to replace ply.
I figure to try it for firewall (probably # braced), or where we use doublers for balsa, and rip it for spars

RE: Some kind of wood
I almost guarantee it's basswood. That's almost exclusively what the reasonably inexpensive wood blinds are made from(it's cheap, strong, and easily stained to look like many types of wood), and I just bought a few sets of those when I remodeled my bathroom. The expensive suckers are usually maple or oak. Anyway, I have a bunch of slats left over from resizing the blinds to fit the window and kept them around because, like you, I figured they must be good for something. I just haven't figured out yet what that is[&:].
