Default Basketcase TD .020

Gents,
I have two Tee Dee's .020 which were rode hard and put away wet by the previous owners.
I am trying to restore to running condition.
I was able to disassemble them free up the crank/piston cylinders and clean/scrape the baked on castor/fuel residue. They will now run a prime but no more.
However the venturis have the itsy bitsy passages around the circumfrence (3 or 4) and the needle assembly has one in the center which seems to feed the ones in the venturi.
What is the best way to clear these passages?

Once clean and functional, what do you guys do to keep the castor from building up after and between runs?
Thanks, Rob

soak it in fuel overnight, attach a fuel line, plug the intake venturi with your finger, and blow into the fuel line, see what happens. If that doesn't do it you'll have to fish the orifices out with a piece of wire.

Thanks Dave. I'll give it a try, I was soaking in wd40.
How do you keep the build up from reoccuring?

Get them running, then after the last run, two drops of after run oil into the crankcase/Venturi, and a drop into the cylinder piston opening. Crank this through a few cranks, to distrbute through the engine should do the trick.

Rob,
Try to use a little piece of copper wire when you are cleaning out those tiny holes - there will be less chance of damage - hard to find replacements now!

Sweet Sucess!

Ran her up in the kitchen, as I was out of daylight.
The woman that must be pleased, was teaching a yoga class and the kids were in the tub.
Didn't want to risk the glo plug so kept an even 1.5v and it drew 2.31amps.
Glowdriver is not exactly field support equipment - what can I say I was an electric guy - till it got to easy

Now the other one still needs a bit of TLC

Thanks for all the help!

These are pretty cool little engines

The other other one needs more than TLC... It needs a lot o'parts. Did you tach. the one that runs? Or is that 'lectronic info gatherin' gizomo just to count smoke signals?

it's agood idea also to put an after run oil in the fuel line and let that flow past the needle when cranking that magic fluid thru by hand. I have had many a cox get that castor snot around the needle and blocking the inlet that the needle seats against.

Skalliwag, No tach yet but she would have pulled my 2x6 around the kitchen if I wasn't holding on.
Treven ran the doppler .wav file on his cell phone - he said it was ballistic 200mph and $400 bye it now[8D]

Toad - good call! I guess I could choke it to pull some after run oil through the fuel tube.

Unfortunatly it takes a very long drop cord to the flying field

Spun her up again today (outside) and it spins the 4.5x2 grey prop between 19-20k
It would dance around a bit - but is pulling quite well.
This engine is not as tight as the other cylinder (more pinch at top) but the other one has undergone the curse of the plyers
