Default 049 and 09 replacement heads???

Is the nelson plug the way to go on both of these? I read the std. plug conversion heads are OK but the Nelson plug conversion keeps the rpms up better. What is the tap size for the nelson plug? I want to save my TD heads for special occasions. Thanks in advance.

11/32x32 is the thrd for the nelson plug...that is an odd size, can be found though at a bit higher price than normal, the trick is the seat on the end of the plug, it isnt a matter of just drilling a hole and tapping it. you have to have a seat at the bottom of the hole for the plug to seal, the plug does not use a washer to seal against
fire up that old dusty lathe and have a go at makin one

Can a burned out Cox glow head be drilled and taped to have the bottom seat?

I dont think so, not enough room, as I dont think the material would be thick enough, I never tried it, you can buy a head from Galbreath for 10 bux, not worth the ffort to do anything else. now the .09....maybe but I doubt you could there also, the depth of the hole to be tapped is very critical, not like you can do it on a drill press. Better to make it on a lathe or a mill.

If I just wait long enough,
One of these 1/2A machinists that hang around here will buy a spool of platinum wire & start Re-Fillimenting old cox heads.

The 09 head can be converted to take a Nelson plug. Takes some machining.

Yes, and all you need is a drill press, the right tap and a Phillips bit. How to do that is here,

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_45...tm.htm#4533758

The depth of an .049 plug is just right. I haven't done an .09 plug yet but it the plug body is deeper at that point, you just have to use the mentioned drill as a go, no go device. Then, you'll have to carefully use a drill bit to trim the top of the plug to allow the turbo to seat down far enough.
