RE: New engines
Stock up on Sure Starts for $6.99 and pick up a couple of TDs or a black widow on flea bay. The Os 10s FPs or LAs work well on some planes.[8D] get the nelson convrsion head from

RE: New engines
If I may ask?
How high would you guys go on bidding for a TD .049/.051?
I missed out on one that Rainedave pointed out this weekend.
I know it's whatever the market bears and what someone is willing to pay but...
Thanks!

RE: New engines
Well, since you asked, here's my opinion (and remember each of my recommendations are redeemable for a free soda at any McDougal's burger joints if you pay a nominal fee equal to the advertised price - plus tax).
If I want a 1/2A glow engine for a model that doesn't need a throttle, a reedie is good enough. This includes single-purpose models like Reedie Racers or for the novelty effect like FFF pusher canard bipe deltas. No extra tanks or messy plumbing - just scew it on to the firewall. Crank it, toss it, jam sticks in a corner, pick it up. (OK, I'll give you the thrill of every flight ending deadstick, it IS part of the reedie fun experience.)
If I want a 1/2A glow engine for a model that would do some aerobatics requiring a throttle, then the AP .061 is enough (or the TT .07, whatever) if I build the model accordingly. Crank it, toss it, touch-n-go, stall turn, land it when/where I want.
If I want to fly with the regular Sunday afternoon crowd who douse me with glow fuel and throw lit matches at me when I crank up an unmuffled engine of any size, then my trusty small diesels, .033, .049, .061 PAWs are the ticket. For me, there is also a measure of satisfaction when setting the needle AND compression. So help me, I like the smell.
If I just want a small model, and it doesn't have to be "1/2A", then my first choice for an engine would be one of the .15s - I don't care which one. Generally speaking .15s sip fuel, start and run well (like a "real" R/C engine), have sufficient power to provide real (not 3D) aerobatics, and are always available on the cheap if you take the time to look. Alas, are there not oodles and scads of kits and ARFs for them, well maybe its time to build from scratch.
I acknowledge that there might be one or even two folks out there who would question the wisdom of the above statements (you know who youse are) - but I haven't paid attention to them in the past. Why would I start now?

RE: New engines
Hey, who's calling whom "old"?
"Fetal position", that's an excellent pictorial synonym (if there is such a thing).
Even though nobody asked me (sniff), if I could only have one small engine it would be the TD .010 - but the PAW .033 R/C would be a darn close second.

It worries me that one day, 1/2A will be an elite club where membership is only granted to those with a vast collection of engines that they have had from the days when you used to be able to just buy them.

RE: New engines
Raymond,
Unfortunately we is getting there- well I feel old with my back. Seeing as I have no TD010;s or 020's I'll have to say diesels I love my small PAWs, DC merlin, Jenna 1cc, Barbini 1cc, even though I have my share of Coxs, norvels and a VA -dam shame there not produced anymore. I have a new Medlion 049 that looks like getting an RJL head too

I should hang my head in shame for forgetting to mention my venerable MILLS 75 and 1.3

RE: New engines
well it may the mills75 and merlin , but i bet it doesnt start as easy.
the Jenna is a ballraced sideport thats best run fast on a 6" prop but needs a spring or electric starter or else 7 out of 10 times it starts in reverse, the Barbini is just a grunt machine max power at 18,000rpm but spins a 7x5" at 12,300rpm whilst sipping 2mls/min of fuel.

Aside from the rapidly dwindling dribble of Sure Starts and that one AP engine we are there now. No new engines and the old standbys are not likely to be reintroduced any time soon.
It's an electrified world out there folks.....
WOW! Enya still makes the old loop scavenged 09?!?!?!?! I wore one of those out back in the mid 60's on a Jr Flite Streak. Must have gotten around 100 or more flights out of it until it landed a little roughly and snapped of the totally oil soaked mounts. It was literally dripping out of the wood. Ah yes, fond memories indeed. I later finished up what little life the engine still had with one very short RC flight that ended up in a trash bag and then mounted it to the nose of a Super Malibu glider to get me back into RC flying after around a 20 year layoff.

RE: New engines
Raymond,
I have to differ w/ you on the arf's available for 15's. There are scads of planes now out for elec flight that will fit the 15 w/ just slight modifications ( ply on the nose ). I have a few and they fly great. Price's 50.00 to 100.00.
