Ace Pacer ready for maiden :)
I have an Ace Pacer I've finally got flight ready and I can not WAIT to maiden her.. im hoping tomorrow.. heres some pictures yall and btw do you think the rubberband idea on the wing will be strong? I dont know how else to hold it on as there is no threads to put a wing bolt on it, I was thinking about maybe epoxying a nut in these predrilled holes in the fuselage and then puting a bolt through the predrilled holes on the wing and hold it like that.. gotta figure it out before I maiden it though.. thanks for any replies!

That looks really nice. What engine and radio are you using in it?
For the wing hold-down, you need to run dowels through the fuselage in front of the leading edge and behind the trailing edge (is this where those pre-drilled holes are?). They should stick out an inch or so from the fuselage sides for your wing attach rubberbands to hook onto.

RE: Ace Pacer ready for maiden :)
Hey thanks hogflyer
Im using an OS .10 engine and using Futaba all around exept for rudder which is an older Gold something servo....
And about the wing hold down.. umm yea I was thinking about that Im probably going to do that.. but no the predrilled holes are actually drilled as if 2 wing bolts went in it.. but I think im just going to go up to the LHS and pick up two dowels like you said... I was thinking that.. as thats how 2 of my high wing glow planes are set up

If you download the Pacer plans from Dave Fritzke site, it will show you how the original wing was mounted. http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/pacer_cadplans.pdf

RE: Ace Pacer ready for maiden :)
Hey everyone Im gonna go with the dowels and rubberband method for holding on my wing.... I attatched some pictures for yall to hopefully help me out.. can yall maybe edit this picture and draw in circles to show me exactly where to put the dowels to have the strongest hold for my rubberbands to hold the wing on? THANKS

My Mach None used the same attachment method shown on the Pacer plans, a single dowel at the center front of the wing keyed into a hole in the bottom of the bulkhead just in front of the wing and a single machine screw at the trailing edge into a blind nut mounted on a plywood brace. It was very strong and served it's function well.
I am sure you will get many inputs, but if I was going to retain the wing with dowels and rubber bands as you have mentioned, my recommendation is to place a dowel at the bottom front of the bulkhead located in front of the wing and at the botton aft of the bulkhead located just behind the wing's trailing edge. Place the holes for the dowels just above the fuselage bottom and corner braces letting them add support. I would think 1/8 or 3/16 dowels extending 1/2 inch out of the fuselage on each side should do the trick.
I loved my Mach None and plan to build another, but the Pacer and the Super Pacer always struck me as a nicer ships. Maybe when time allows, I'll scratch one.
Good Luck,
Cary

yea i dont feel like having the freaking balsa split becaue of the pressure of the rubber bands.. so I think im gonna try the blind nut and machine screw... caue there is a dowel in the front of the wing into the hole in the fuselage.. so i think im gonna try that. it will look nicer too

Howdie gents, I have allways used nylon bolts. in the event of a wing tip strike ( cartwheel) they will shear off and do a lot less damage. I use them on the landing gear too. nice looking plane, good luck with the maiden. hkbii.

I got it wings on there tight.. I used a self tapping wood screw a little bigger than the pre drilled holes... and i pulled and tugged on the wing and didn't budge.. Idk how long the self tapping things gonna work though, idk i know it'll hold for the maiden.. which ill probably do tomorrow

Howdie gents, I,d pull the screw out and put a drop of thin ca in the hole to harden the threads. put the screw back in to recut the threads, ( after it has hardend) . I would still go with a nylon bolt and blind nut, it only takes one wing to come off to lose faith in the wood threads. Happy flying. hkbii.

Howdie gents, I have found the bolts and blind nuts in the box stores ie homedepot and lowelees, some ace hardware stores will have them, We dont have a hobby shop here so I find other places and things that I can use. I have found a lot of my nuts and bolts at napa. hkbii.

Howdie , yes , I drill the hole the same size as the out side of the nut where the threads are, and then put a drop of thick ca, at the base of the thread tower and the flange then pull it tight with the bolt . make sure that the wing and the blind nut mount fit flush (no gap ), if there is a gap between them you could break the wing when it is tighted down. if there is a gap fill it with a washer or a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it. hkbii
