Default Cox gray props still on the rise it seems.

I know the Cox gray props have been fetching some really good prices in certain places. I have been watching one and it is over forty dollars now ( for four). What I really like is that the seller is offerering to ship them for less than three dollars! Typically most sellers (nowadays) would tell you shipping was five or six bucks or better.

Use this for a search and se the ones I have been watching 260201440062.

I also noticed a pair of gray .010 props which have not had a bid yet. Those are getting harder to find as well.

i have one of these grey props. its a 5D4P. was on a TD 051. picked it up with the engine, rather cheap.

are these props better than an APC? or is it just a "COX" kinda thing to pay big bucks for?

The 5 X 3 gray was "the" prop to have when we were racing Upstarts w/ TD's...back in the mid 70's.
Don't know as they're worth 12 bucks ea. though...

There's probably an APC of equal or better performance but I don't know which one (yet )?

Hangin' out here has gotten me interested in the small stuff again but so far all I've done is clean and loosen up some .020's and .049's...

Don't just loosen them... Run them and get a ride down memory lane... Then start doing 1/2A again..

I just put a new 5x3 grey on my Norvel .049. Can't remember where or when I bought it, but it was pretty recent. Think I paid about $2......guess I shouldn't have mounted it and ruined the resale value.

The Cox 5x3 and 5x4 are still well regarded by the cotnrol line 1/2a speed and racing crowd and are often the basis for some of their hand tuned props.

Steve Wilk makes carbon fiber and glass fiber props and has a 5x4 listed that I think is a sort of copy of the Cox 5x4. A bit pricey and not for everyone but he does produce a good product.

Steve has several props in his line up suitable for the 1/2a flyer. $5 to $10

He does not have a web site but has posted a word document of his listing here:

The T-1 I think is the Cox 5x4 copy and the M-4P is the LH (clockwise rotation) version of the T-1

In my opinion, the Cox prop designs are superior to all others. I had done a test on a selection of 8 X 4s on a dieselized, Norvel .074 and while on the ground static, the Cox prop was slower than many, in the AIR it was clearly superior. Interestingly, the APC 8 X 4 in this application was down the bottom of the list. I suspect that the Cox props are better than most in a wide RPM range. The APCs, it appears, are designed to do their best work at high RPM.

Sure wish I could find an 8 X 4 "rubber ducky".
