I use OS P8 plugs with Sig 1/2A fuel...and I get nearly 19K out of a Wasp swinging a Graupner 6x3.

What's the heat range of that turbo plug? Medium/hot? I can't find it with an off hand search...

Thanks for the links. I've been thinking about getting a replacement head or two to use on whichever .049s I let out of my engine storage box for control line use by my son. There's some catching up to do on Cox products after ages of almost exclusive diesel flying.

P8's are kinda cold for that small of an engine, aren't they? The P7 is a "medium" and the P6 is a "Hot" and they go down lower in # to (I know of and have ) P3 super hot.

I would think a small engine would like a hot plug, wouldn't it? Unless you're using a lot of nitro.

I have a lot of R/C cars and the .21's and .28's like a med. to hot, and the .12's like a P6 or hotter, and we are using at least 25% nitro too...(?)

Just guessing here...

I've been using a turbo head on my Black Widow .049. It runs great with an OS P7 medium. Haven't tried the hot or cold plugs so I can't compare. I think you'll be fine either way.

It is a Valentine. Bought it from the big auction site. I just put it on and began flying it with a new engine and never compared it to a stock Cox head. I've got a Hypercolor engine with one of Tim W's turbo heads as well but haven't run it yet. Plan to use the P7 in it as well since I've got a couple of them in my box. I've heard that the Rossi turbo plugs work well in these but haven't tried them.

That big ole' auction site that starts with a letter that rhymes with "me". Do a search for "Valentine Cox" and you shall find what you seek.

I buy from Larry Driskill at Kitting It Together -- excellent service and a good guy to deal with.

The Cox TD .09 is a great little engine but the RC version has a standard plug, not the glo-head as used on the venturi model.

Does anyone make an .09 conversion head to either Nelson or Turbo type plugs? Could make the RC version a real contender.

Be wary of Quick Tech Hobby. Do a search for them here on RCU and see what people say about them.

Here's how you can convert a burned out plug to take turbos. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_45...tm.htm#4533758

I've just received a couple of turbo plugs made for car and truck use •• hot plugs for .12 engines on 20% nitro in 1/10 scale vehicles. I chose the closest plug to what I thought would work with .049 at 25% nitro. These are from O'Donnell ( 00077T ) and are only 2/3 the price of the NovaRossi and OS plugs usually recommended for Cox turbo head conversions. When the weather warms up I'll put the workmate up on the deck and see how they perform. There's an even less expensive turbo plug available from Rex Engines, but I haven't gotten around to sorting through their specs to find one that would match up to Cox .049 use.

I ran an O'Donnell turbo plug a while back for kicks to see how it worked. I just plugged it in and flew a couple of times with good results. Never got around to taching it, though.

Rex Engines is NovaRossi World, Aircraft line of Engines. So the Rex turbo plug is a NovaRossi plug. This link describes their plugs.

The O'Donnel are now Hobbico.
