Default Ace Simple Corsair

Will the TT 10 fly the Ace Simple Corsair or does it need a 15.

That's a loaded question.....just think of a .10 like it's a worn out .15

FWIW, mine flew pretty well with a Norvel .074 so I don't imagine it needs a .15. Ok, brain fart - There are no more Norvel .074s.

Stuffing a .15 in the Ace Corsair is going to increase an already high wing loading. But it would be lots of fun and a rocket to land!

No need to put anything more than a .10 in an ACE Corsair and then I would consider it likely to be nose heavy and over powered. I built an ACE A-6 Texan that flew wonderfully with a PAW .06 and rarely ever needed full throttle unless I wanted to show off. It flew even better when I made a built-up wing when I wanted to go full house with it.

It sounds like you already have a .10, and are wondering if you should go out and buy a new .15 in order to build and fly this plane. Use the .10 and if you're really disappointed, buy the .15.[8D] If I got all that wrong disregard what I said.

Geeze, all you guys that want to stuff a .15 into a Simple Series plane. That's like stuffing a 427 into a Chevette. But I guess there's no such thing as too much power, right?

I am putting a package together for a customer... Thought I would get some imput from the people who have been on this road.
I havn't done a 10-15 for a long time. I went down to 061 now just use .020 and .010.

Ahhhh, now we understand. The Ace site recommends the TT 07 so I'd think the TT 10 would be fine, as would the OS 10. A PAW .06 or .09 would also do well. There just isn't anything between 1/2a and .15s anymore is there?

The final weight is spec'd at 16 - 20 oz, but both of mine finished around 22 oz and you'd need to be an excellent builder and part surgeon to get the plane under 20oz IMHO. IIRC the box says you can use as small as an .049 and I've read posts from folks who have used .061s, but with ~200 sq" of wing area those engines are on the small size for that weight. Even with an .074 mine had limited vertical abilities.

The Ace site as well as thundertiger4u is gonna recomend the TT something for all their planes, I would think the .07 would be fine for the corsair.. I may have to get one of them for fun too.....like I need another plane when the BARKS swapmeet is 2 days away...unfortunatley for me I sold my Pathfinder so I have a pocket full of $$$$....probably better fix my other cars first though its getting pretty cold for the scoot...Rog

I built an Ace Simple Corsair and stuffed an OS 15 FP in there. It was a rocket ship and was fun, but due to the high wingloading it would fall out of the sky and spin with absolutely NO warning if you slowed it down at anything less than about 30 mph. It was a one flight, then take it home to repair, wonder. I only flew it about 4 times before I gave up. I don't think that the OS 10 is a whole lot lighter than the 15.
