I've used both, and they both work very well. I see no difference between the two (both are made in China anyway), so if it were up to me I would go with the less costly.

Thanks-Same price, just never used the Futaba. I have HT55, just don't know if their enough for a Herr something extra. The futaba seemed a little better spec wise?

Futaba has also come out with an HS-81 competitor:

BTW, the HS-81 is being replaced by the 82:

Haleluja! I love competition. I really like HItec over Futaba, if anything just for their rubber grommets that stay PUT. The new 82??? looks good bet they won't be 16.95?

I bought 4 HS-55's because they were so widely used. Two were faulty right out of the box... one centered differently depending on which direction it was rotating, and the other had large incremental steps instead of smooth small ones. They were replaced under warranty, but I didn't need the hassle. Then I switched to Futaba 3110 servos, which are now discontinued and replaced with the 3114. They have 10% more speed, 20% more torque, for the same price point. Need I say more?

10 minutes before your message came I ordered the 55's in a 3 pack because I had an extra and the servo leads are longer, but I still didn't feel right about the 55's. I called Tower right back but was too late to change the order-I kept looking at the torque and speed of the 3114's and said "screw it" and ordered them too on a free freight deal. Oh well, nothing wrong with extra servos.
Thanks for the reassurance.

One other thing is parts, replacing a gear set, etc. The older 3110 by Futaba was for 4.8v only, cuold be why they stoped production on them, have four of these as well. The gear set for the 3110 is pretty low now.

I have a couple sets of the 3114s, they are nice.

The HS55 are a bit weak and flimsy (ok for throttle), I prefere the HS-65HB with carbonite gears.

I like 65's or 81's for throttles of my 40 size planes.(Nitro) The 55's or 3114's are for a Herr Something Extra with an electric conversion. Manual calls out for 55's but the controls are fairly substantial for a small plane. Made me a little nervous, so I think I'll try the 3114's-they have a little more torque, same weight & size. I have the 55's on a Sig Kadet EP42 with a lipo system and it works great-but not pushing that plane like what the extra will go through.
