Default 1/2A Shrike Race #1

Northern Virginia RC had our inaugural Shrike race on April 19. Fourteen planes made it out for the race, but only eleven left in flying condition. One mid-air, one "radio" glitch, and an outright crash were the culprits. Rules are simple:
- Stock built Shrikes running a non-modified Norvel 0.61RC with a non-modified propeller.
- 15% Nitro.
- 4 heats with 4 planes per heat
- points are accumulated over a 6 race season to determine the overall winner (think NASCAR).

We should have greater participation next month as 50 Shrike kits were distributed this winter. Some remain on the building board and the rainy morning kept some racers away. Here is a pick of the early birds. Looks for the details of the race shortly.

Default Club races...

Down Shift,

Your clubs approach to 1/2a racing is very cool. The Shrike is a great airplane. Only question I have is: four Shrikes going neck and neck into turn one you better have a distinctive color scheme or you may not be flying your own plane coming out of the turn!

A fifty kit participation is really good too. You guy's should have a real hoot with this one..... 1/2a pylon..... The best kept secret in the RC hobby!!! Rgds, Jeff....

Default Rounding turn 1.....

After a few wild laps during the first heat, it seemed like everyone was getting dialed in by the fourth heat. So next month I hope to post a picture with 4 planes grouped tight together pulling 20g around this pylon!

Good club! My club has over 200 people and you might have gotten 3, maybe 7 if there's an ARF version.

Soarrich, Middletown is not that far of a drive to Northern VA (we are next to Dulles Airport). Make it down for the May race. The race calender can be found here: http://www.1nvrc.com/

I know what you mean about the lack of builders these days. The turnout for this year's building contest was pathetic. On a bright note, one of our racers has offered to frame up a Shrike, including radio and engine install for only $30!

Default 1/2A Shrike Race #1

It's Middletown NJ, not the one in the State of DuPont!

I used to fly the ESL and flew in Va. a lot, I'm not up to the driving anymore.

Default 1/2A Shrike Race #1

hehehe I have never flown a shrike, or anything quite like it however I would deffinaetly like to!

I would think it would be a great 1/2a combat plane~ (if such a thing exists)

would'nt it be cool with little 15 foot streamers behind them!

man, how cool~ there is a .25 size shrike that is built and arf minus motor, and reciever/ battery at the local hoby shop for 70.00 if it was the 1/2a version for 50.00 I'd snatch it up!
