Schweizer #2 is done and ready to go
Howdy All,
Another dreary day in the Midwest. As I write this it is overcast and 25 degrees F. The wind is blowing at 14 MPH[:'(]. I guess this is why winter is called "Building Season". I made a lot of headway on the little glider today and she is Finished! Final Weight 2.3 Oz. Hey and that's with fuzzy dice on board..
Bruce and John L.,
I promise to be more patient and wait for calm days for test flying this one. I hope I don't have to wait till Summer.
Here are the pics of this finished little bird.
Enjoy
Hec

Hi Hec,
I am reassured that this beauty will now get the treatment it deserves.
I am really old fashioned where aircraft are concerned, I don't even like models without Dihedral.
Is it too late to put a mist coat over the pattern? Sorry, I forgot, you are properly concerned with the weight.
Come on flying weather!

See, that's why you shoulda gone with the Flaming Skulls,
to keep you warm in the freezing weather
It will probably fly faster if you put a Thrush sticker or two on it,
and they would go with the red theme you already have.

Kid Epoxy,
Dude you crack me up. I was going to put a couple of skull and cross bones stickers on the rudder but couldn't fine one I liked. I don't think John L. liked my red carbon fiber looking wings? I think it looks cool.[8D]

Aside from the highly non traditional colour scheme she looks fantastic.
The larger size will be a little more tolerant of wind but you're wise to have stayed inside. 14 is just way too much for testing on something even this size. You want more like 0 to 4.
Just be patient for the right time. Do something else in the meantime. You did the regular size and now double. So the next obvious and logical step is a triple size....

Bruce,
Yeah, the color scheme isn't very traditional is it? Maybe the non traditional color scheme makes it look bigger. This glider is the same size as the last. It has a 30" wingspan. Can you beleive that it only has 70 square inches of wing area? Those wings are narrow! I have a 40" version all drawn up in Auto Cad ready to get parts laser cut. I essentially built this one to make sure all the parts fit. So far so good. I am even contemplating taking the 40" size up to 50". Either a 40" or 50" will be my next attempt.
Hey the wind is down to 5 mph now but its dark out!
