MAN pull out plan GNAT
Does anyone have any experience with this plane? I have one framed up and I have to tell you, not all the parts fit so well....The worse mismatch so far has been the wing saddle. It wasnt even close to the wing profile. The specified drill hole for the wing dowel is not even close to where it looks like mine will end up. I have put a robart incident gauge to get both the stab and wing at 0°.
If anyone has any pointers I would greatly appreciate it.

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
Which MAN was this pull-out plan in?
First I have seen or heard of a GNAT taht looks like that. Looks like it will make for a nice plane.
cheers, Graham

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
The plan number is FSP01922. (is that 01 of '92?) I found an original copy of the plan on ebay. I tried to get one from MAN, but they dont have it anymore.
The plans show an o.s. 10. I have a brand new TT GP-10 I am going to try in it. I am hoping it flys as well it looks..

Well now, that is the adventure of building from fold out plans. I've built many from free plans and yes, not all the parts fit well. You need a bit of experience to get a good finished product, but it is worth the effort.
I can't say much that will help you, you're going to have to do what you must to make it all fit. It's a plan on paper, not stone. I for one will never know if you changed something to get the thing to fit and fly.

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
Ive been building for longer than I want to admit. And this is the first time I have had as many small "issues" building from plans. Of course most of my plan projects have been purchased plans. Anyway..Onward with the project!
Fritzke...nice wing fillets....so tell me how did it fly? and that looks like an AP .09 on the front?

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
I hate to admit that I still have not flown this thing.
All last summer I got out to fly twice. I should be banished form
the forum for that fact alone.
I sure hope to do better this summer.
Yes, that is an AP 09, now I am building a scale twin (my first!)
and I may need it to go with the other AP.09 I have to make
up the pair.
The fillets are a thin ply base, vertical grain balsa and lightweight
spackle. Very light and actually pretty easy to make.
I don't recall parts fit issues, but I am pretty tolerant about trimming
and shimming to get things to fit.

Thanks OzMo..
I think scratch building and designing and scratch building is one of the more satisfying aspects of this hobby. Shame more people dont do it.
(Hopefully I make some progress on it today and get it ready to cover. )

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
maybe they had problems with more than one plan? The biggest fault I have found was the wing saddle. The plan showed the fuse side was much smaller than the actual wing. It was like they decided at the last minute to draw a thicker airfoil. But I have dealt with it, after lots of sanding and the wing fits nicely.

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
I finally found the copy of MAN I stashed away to build this and after reading the problem with the wing saddle I checked rib 2 against the wing saddle and found that there is no allowance for the 1/16" wing sheeting.so will cut the fuse side accordingly. Do have one question. did you use building tabs on the ribs.my pull out only shows tabs on rib 6 but the article photo shows them on all ?

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
I've got the pull out plans for the Gnat too. Looks like a nice plane for an OS .10 FSR with tuned pipe.
I've drawn and cut out all the templates but haven't started cutting any wood. I think next time I have them out I'll verify parts will match up before any wood is cut.
Has anybody finished/flown a Gnat yet?

RE: MAN pull out plan GNAT
I saw one of those buzzing around in fine small-field aerobatic form when I drove up to visit a Demon customer at his field in June sometime. Had a Norvel .074 in it and looked like a bunch of fun!
I've been eyeing his AT-6 - or what I'd make as a Harvard of course - plans for a while too, I found a set a couple of months ago. Cute wee thing. Another project for the bottom of the priority list..
