Default Which is a better engine?

Another question. Which is a better, faster, for powerful engine? Novel AME RC Big Mig .15 or a OS max .015 LA? If each motor was on the same plane, what would each do that the other one wouldn't? I'm think about which motor to put on a Little Herr extra. Terry

My vote would be the AME R/C .15 .it is light, very powerful and has a very poor muffler too!

Mtntpgeo says his Norvel wont turn a 8x4 very well. I've never ran one, but they were popular with some of the RC combat guys.
The OS .15 is here today, parts are easy to get, the engine will put out enough to pull 2 pounds straight up.

OK you didn't ask about it but the Magnum XLS .15 is a power house ball bearing twin needle carb engine that is about $60.

The magnum is a good engine...the Norvel will out rev the OS, but the muffler on a norvel is a big hunk hanging out there, and if your buying used then it has probably been through combat...oh and no more parts available for it.....Rog

I put a Magnum .15XL on my lil' extra running an APC 8x4 prop, very good combo and AUW was only 30oz.

The now defunct Norvel might have a bit more top end, but the manners of the OS are what you want on an aerobat like that, plus it is plenty of power. The other recommendations are worth checking into as well. You want to prop for static - low speed pull, as in 8-3 or 8-4, and a .15 that prefers little props is better suited to something else. IMHO, that is.

...Novel AME RC Big Mig .15 ?

Terry
Terry, you are actually talking two engines here:

NORVEL AME RC .15 - Good performance BB .15. I think SIG still sells these. Not sure about parts.

NORVEL Big Mig RC .15 - Plain bearing version, different porting. A little less performance, still good.

gcb I'm sorry, you are correct. What I ment to say is a Norvel ame .15 bb Revelite. How does that compare to the OS-max .15 LA? Thanks again. Terry

with some very mild porting/timing, carb work and muffler mods can pick up 3000 rpm on apc 7x5 and 7x6 props and around 2000 or so on the 8x4 and 8 x 5 apc's.

for the OS 15 simply moving the needle threaded portion out (opening up the carb) will net you 4-500 rpm in one minutes work.

of all the 15's, os conquest magnum mvvs and so on they all turn about the same with above mods. some of our guys have the 15's turning 7X5 apc's at close to 19,500 and some of the carbon pylon props over 21,000.

even the os FP .10 with mild retiming and exhaust exit work can turn 7x5 apc at 17,000 all on 5%.

my money is on the new 15 la.

oh yeah and the 120.00 dollar OS cv15 isnt worth the price if you get same rpm or more with fp,la's and so on.
