Anyone going to SMALL 2008?
The invitation showed up in the mail the other day, so I was wondering who may be attending.
I can post the details this evening once I get home (dates, activities, maps, etc.). Dickeybird has done this in the past few years.
Anyways, I went in 2005 and an awesome event and definitely worth the trip (met HFenn, Skaliwag, Dickeybird, Matchlessaero, and ThomasB among many others):
- Great way to meet many designers / modelers which we see in the Flying Models, RCM's, Model Airplane News, etc.
- Lots of hangar talk
- Fantastic models to watch fly and actually fly
- Awesome flying site
- Get a chance to put an RCU screen name to an actual person
It is just a ton of fun.
My goal is to get a bunch of us 1/2Ar's who love the smell of glow fuel and small engines to make a showing and have fun together at least once a year. Maybe we could get T-shirts made so we are easy to spot?
I plan on making it and was wondering if anyone in the southeast, Carolina Crew, would like to make the trip together?
Carpooling would be perfect: save on gas $$ (big bonus) and talk airplanes along the way.
Brian
P.S. There is also the Coffee Arfoilers SMALL event held by Eric Clutton in TN - may be closer.

I hope you get to come again, Brian.
I will be there, for sure. I hope a lot of the 1/2A guys that post here get to come.
A number of folks have complained that it is becoming too much of an electric event. If you don't come with your 1/2A models, you are creating the very situation you are complaining about...

Speaking of SMALL, I got an email a few days ago that Joe Wagner is starting up SMALLnet again. The note was to confirm email addresses and eliminate ones that are no longer active. If you were on the SMALLnet list and have changed your email address...

Similar Dilemma here, maybe we could ship our planes to a hotel, then fly down there?

Thanks Larry for posting the event details. The past day slipped by too quickly.
Thomas is correct... this year needs a good "glow" attendance.
Quite a trip for me too: 800 miles (12 hrs)
I figure it is worth it, my one big trip of the year.
Now to get more models finished and in flying condition...

I guarantee that if you go you will enjoy it. I have managed to get to two of them and enjoyed both. I live a little too far to get their often, but I am glad that I did go. I had to leave early last year because of not feeling well and having to catch the plane in New Orleans. The models and the modelers were fantastic.

6 weeks until SMALL.......get those models ready!
I am thinking about restoring one of my old .020 Tee Dee models with modern sub micro servos and flying it there... It is a little sport model that flew at the first SMALL in Dallas in the 1980s.
Since we are all flying small models, think about carpooling with a flying buddy to beat the high cost of gas! You can get lots of models in a van and share the trip. I am only 6 hours away and will come solo, but for those of you with really long drives it is a way to avoid spending hundreds on gas.

You guys HAVE to bring some real 1/2A powered planes!!!!!! It has gotten to where there are so many electrics that the 1/2A's really stand out. Someone fires one up and all heads turn. I am going to be there to photograph the event from the air. Hope to see a lot of you guys there.
There is a new C.D. this year too. My buddy Dale Womack is going to C.D. the event. It will be a lot of fun!

Hey there...am doing some final building for SMALL and am heading out on the road tomorrow.
Hope to see some of the regs there, despite the high price of gas....and I am still planning on having a TD .020 model there, at this time.
Don't forget...going with a buddy cuts the gas price in half...plus it is much more fun to drive along and talk about models that to make the drive alone!

My buddy and I will be leaving SC tomorrow afternoon as well. I'm bringing the Simple Duster with Norvel .061. It makes plenty of noise. I think my buddy will be bringing some glow stuff too. See ya'll there.

I will be there as well. Leaving early Thursday and meeting up with Joe Wagner in Birmingham to carpool over.
Given the past month with kids being sick, relatives visiting, and work I have not been able to finish any planes.
Primarily heading out to enjoy the weekend with you guys and help Joe out.
See you there and looking forward to a fun time.

Will be nice to see you again, Brian...I am bringing the well worn but still flyable Republic Rainbow model that you liked so much.
Even though it is electric, I am going to post a couple of pics for the 1/2A guys to see....I'd really love to see someone do a larger 1/2A version one of these days...4 1/2A's turning and burning...that would be very cool!
(The Republic XF-12 Rainbow model is 1/72 scale, wingspan is about 28", my own design from blue foam and depron and has 4 M-20 motors..all up weight is 3.75 oz.)
