I had the 48" Cub and shortened the wing to make a copy of Hazel Sig's Clipped wing Cub. I added ailerons and covered it in light blue and white. I discovered that LustreCoat was NOT the paint to use on the cowl as it turned the cowl into a gooey mess! When I ordered a new cowl, Mr Herr told me that he also had problems with Lustrecoat and recommended Perfect paint.( not made anymore). I used a Thunder Tigre .07( not the new one) and discovered that, while it was a sweet running and quiet engine, it sure was lacking in the power department.

I took all the dihedreal out of my wing and put full span ailerons on her. I am flying her with a nippyblack 1812 electric with a 2100 lipo and she has alot of power the only thing is my wing is warped a little and If I try and take her off on the ground she like to drop a wing real bad an shoot off to the right. I am wondering maybe it it's the 10 inch prop that I am using increasing the P factor

There are two cubs on that link listed above. One is 29.00 and one is 44.00 anyone know the difference. Also, do these kits give you info on how to make them electric?

The 29.00 plane has a 35" wingspan and the 44.00 one has a 48" wing. They don't provide much information on powering the plane in the instructions. I used an e-flite 450 on mine and had to make my own hatch between the cowl and windshield. It lifts off and is held with magnets so I don't have to remove the wing to change battery.

The $29.00 Herr cub is designed for electric. The kit encourages use of a can 280 motor. It actually flies well with an s280. (Still a can, but has more power, and has bearings).
I think this kit it was designed before Brushless motors were well established.
The pictured cub is the 35" inch cub build as the kit instructed.

I built one of these years ago. Still have the fuse and the plans. I powered it with a Norvel .061. It was a sweet flier. It's somewhere on my 'to do' list to make a new wing for it. I'd probably build it flat and put ailerons on it too. I had standard size servos - even for the throttle, so it was pretty heavy, but it's a big wing. I've seen 48" cubs powered by .25 engines that didn't go any better than my .061 powered one.

Digger, thanks, thats a good looking cub. I have never seen one done that color. I have never done anything electric. Does the plans give you good details for the electric. Would it be hard to add ailerons to the 35" electric? (j_t01 thats also a beautiful job and colors on your cub)

That is Ultracote "Green Apple" I believe it is still available.
I appreciate the compliments because generally what I get concerning that plane is a hard time because she is not yellow.
The wing on that plane is built rather lite. I believe you could engineer ailerons, but I dont know that it would make the plane fly any better. She is actually rather nimble with just the rudder. I really think what makes this plane fly as well as it does is weight management.
She was really easy to build. (My first electric)

I used to use an 8 cell NMH battery and she flew very well,
But now I use a two cell 800mah lipo, and she flies even better. It lost almost 2 oz with this conversion.
I get about 15 min of flight time depending on how much I am in the throttle. I think if I were to convert to a comparable brushless motor, she would loss even more weight while increasing flight times.
