I looked it up on OS's site and its circa 1961 but it does not state displacement.

A while back OS made a limited run of .06 engines. Not too many were made (I wish they'd make it a regular item).

Are you talking about the 6 glow engine or the K6 ignition engine?

I had a Max 06 c/l engine when I was a kid 30+ years ago...I still remember it as good runner.

In the late 80's the did a limited run of the K6, a replica of the first OS engine from the late 30's. It's a spark ignition engine and .58 dispacement I do believe.

Here is a MAX 6, 1 CC glow engine:
An .061, no doubt. This is from the 60's I think.

Nice little engines produced for a short time over the period 1961-1963. I suspect they were not commercially successful for OS, as they were no doubt expensive to buy for their size on the home market in comparison with the existing well established Fuji and Enya 049'and 061's-and they would not have stood any show at all in the US market which at the time would have been awash with Cox, Fox, K&B, McCoy and OK 1/2A motors. The European mrket niche would already have been well catered for by continental and UK diesels plus a few glows in the 049-061 size range.I acquired a Max 6 at the last NZ Nats-very second hand, from a now retired FF flier who made good use of it in 1/2A-NZ rules (and Japanese)right from the beginning allowing motors of up to 1cc in 1/2A, and found it to be competitive with the TD 049. He did run it on 40% niitro though!
A couple of photos with AME 049 and OS Pet 099 for size comparison...........

Dug out a Dec 1962 MAN and checked the World Engines ad (pg-3). They were touting the NEW MAX .06 for $8.98. Said a throttle would be available by the end of the year.

Chris, Is that a Pet-II? I never had one of those new, although I have a junk one a guy was selling for spare parts.

I had the first iteration Pet with no head fins, and still have some later ones with the drop-in liner. Nice engines. I think those are the only engines I have with a baffle that steps down on the bypass side.

Oops, sorry for hijacking the thread. Never had the .06.

I made a box for my OS 6. It's a very collectible engine.

Here is an old thread on teh OS Pet .09 engines.

Yup, the NV is in the bottom of the box. I can't close the lid with the NV in place.

Yes George it is a Pet-II-reasonably common in NZ-and I recall them (as a junior) being for sale in my home town of Dunedin in the early 70's-and at that time they had been on the market quite some time. Sods of things to start (in those pre electric starter days) but ran well once they were running. Came with a nice red anodised aluminium tank on the back, and an optional R/C throttle-a rather crude affair that plugged in to the existing intake. Never had one of the latter so I don't know how well they worked. Curiously-the Pet-III a much better motor-was never commercially available here-probably because the Max-10 and Max-10 FSR toied up that niche. Both Pet-II and Pet-III came in the same oversize (for the contents) maroon box-in contrast to the deep royal blue boxes all the other OS engines came in at the time. I don't know what the significance was.......
Interestingly I read somewhere-from a reputable authority-that so many OS Pet-IIs were produced that the crankcase dies wore out, and hence the Pet-III was forced on OS by circumstance rather than by choice-but they took the opportunity to do a complete redesign-and in doing so produced a far better engine.
I believe there were TWO versions of the Pet-I....both with the plain unfinned cylinder head, but one had two head bolts, and the other four....

Chris,

There were three version of just the 2-head screw model and then 4-screw smooth head and later finned head versions. Case changes too.

See this old thread for pictures of them.

I just saw one of these engines in the weekend. Really nice little engine.
A friend of mine here in Japan pulled out his box of "slow and uninteresting" engines; he is into pylon.
In the box where the O.S 061, a gmark03 and a gmark <I think?> 049.. it was really weird looking. and another Japanese 1cc engine like i have never seen before.
as well as that was a whole history lesson of odds and ends.
Got to love old engines! [8D]
