Electric Mach None conversion
I have a vintage Mach None kit and I'm thinking of doing a brushless conversion. I think that plane needs a .09 Tee Dee for optimum performance, what size brushless motor and lipo battery would be the equivalent of an 09 TD? Or if you recommend something else just let me know.
Thanks!
Thanks!

oh man! Ive been looking a long time for that kit. I have very fond memories of one I had yrs ago with a TD .049 on it, an .09 would be overkill and to go lecky on it would be blasphemy! wanna sell that kit?

Well, here is a start:

Those are TD performance specs on a 5-6" prop.
Or something like a 20x40xhigh Kv Ammo in-runner from the Tower of Hobbies.
http://www.electrifly.com/motors/gpmg5105.html
(Those prop sizes in the chart are all for geared motors I think.)
You might need a 24mm motor to get enough torque to spin a 6x3 at 20k
without overheating. I have limited "e-sperience", so if someone else can shed
more light on this, great!
Now, for the full experience use a battery that lasts just as long as a Sullivan 1 ounce tank
on a TeeDee and you are all set! Deadstick landings mandatory.
The Astro 020 specs claim it will do 15k on a 6x4 APC at 112 watts on a 2 cell Lipo.
On a 5.5x4 and 3 cells, the claim is 21.7k at a big old 240 watts!
Thats sort of the range of a good reed valve Cox to a good front intake Cox engine.

Go glow!!! But, if you have to make it a lecky use an Inrunner that will spin a 5" or 6" prop over 20,000rpm. That is the prop/rpm this model was designed for. I would really hate to think of it jerking around the sky with a 10" or 12" lecky prop. That's just too far out of character for this classic rocket.
