Default Carolina Crew Reedie Race - 10/04/08

First... the weather could not have been better. A perfect Carolina blue sky October Saturday. How many songs have been written about that?

This was probably the most successful and competitive racing we've had. Everyone flew five races of five laps and I think there were only about three DNF's. I'll let someone else fill in the details.

On with the photos...

I agree on the perfect weather! I think the kids all had a good time with each other, Bob's controliner, and the RC truck.
As far as scoring goes, there were only two dnfs, Bob had perfect runs earning 30pts. The heat I was in with Bob was the one where I left the plane off, luckily it didn't go far and we got it back to finish 2nd, otherwise I had all wins and finished with 29 pts. Dave had all seconds and one dnf getting 20 pts. Bill had one dnf, one win, one second and two thirds for 19 pts.
Bill and Dave had really the closest heats of racing with each other as any of them all day and were great fun to watch. I hope you guys continue with any kind of racing as you seemd to have a bunch of fun.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

The kids flying control line was super cool. Thanks again Bob.

That was a ton of fun! And yes the weather was awesome!!!! I flew 5 races with 3 different engines, none of which were mine!!![X(](thanks Dave & Rog). That was actually my first official pylon race and Vic helped with some advice on how to keep a consistent line around the pylons(much tougher than I thought it would be). I really had a good time even maidening Rog's Blink(more like a bucking bronco on steroids). I got to fly Dave's .15 size Sure Shark and that thing flew great and was on rails from the start, another awesome plane by Dave...Vic put on a show with his Magnum making passes at mach 5!....very impressive!(just an FYI Vic...real men make those passes inverted!) Tonight my son kept saying "dad, that yellow plane was faasssstttt!". Bob spent a lot of time with the kids showing them how to fly control line and that was really fun to watch, Bob that is fantastic that you took the time to do that and thanks for the trophies!

Sorry I don't have pics....but I do have some video of the kids flying control line....soon as I figure out how to get it on the computer I will post a link...

Is that a pylon pole in the background, or do you guys fly RC right next door to "Radio Free Europe"?

Mmm, chili dogs and control line....living dangerously. [X(]

Well guys, I had a great time!! Some really good racing today as well as some fun flying!! Dave's SureShark is a racing contender. Fast and smooth. Better keep an eye out for Dave!!

I hope the kids had fun with the little Wizard!! Amazing how fast they learn!! Many were flying laps like old pros in no time. Its good to get their feet wet in modeling at such a young age!! I have some really good memories with my Dad and controline models!!!

Well congrats to Vic, Dave and Bill. They really put on a show with some close racing. Yep the weather was great!!! Thanks Rog for having the event. I think everyone had a great time!!! Here are the few pictuures I was able to snap along with Vic's help!! Enjoy!!!

We had a great time as well. Weather could not have been better... I brought all four of my kids due to Mommy holding a baby shower at our house.

After returning home Nathan (my oldest) immediately grabbed a piece of paper and pencil to start drawing the Lil'Wizard up in plans form so he could build one

That is all I head on the way home... "Dad, the circle plane that we flew".

I need to check around to see if I can find a kit for the kids to build and fly.

What fun to watch the races, especially when they are close. Lots to learn about being a smooth flier and keeping a clean line. I was doubly impressed by how quickly everyone was able to get their engines running. The kids kept the time (1 minute warning to start engine and prepare for launch) as can be seen in some of the pics with their arms up in the air. Exciting to watch them learn and help out. Mine were also excited to go out and pick up the airplanes after the races.

Bob was truly a gentleman and a star example of why this hobby is so great. A big thanks for brining your C/L Lil'Wizard, fueling, starting, etc... and teaching the kids how to fly it. I tried to stay away from the circle (for dizzy reasons), but my daughter needed some help. Flight went great, but I had to sit down for a bit afterwards

Great pics everyone... very representative of the fun day we had.

Dude, the towers out there are capable of sending messages to China! The first time I flew out there they scared the poo out of me wondering if there woud be radio issues. I for one have never had any problems with any of my radios, that includes GWS, Futaba, Hitec, even PCM.

Glad you guys liked the Magnum. It was cool to fly with the echo off the trees.

Guys, guys, guys! Thanks for posting comments and especially the pictures of this event. It lokks great.
I wish I could attend but I am not able to.

Bob, bringing the Li'l Wizard was a superb gesture. Like all your planes the finish is spectacular.

I hope there will be more pictures to come.

I'm glad all had a good time. Days like these are why people say "it don't get better'n this!"

Boy oh boy, it looks like youse-all had a great day!

I can smell that burnt castor and hear them screamin' .049s just by looking at the photos.

It looks like those kids had a swell time with Bob's Lil Wizard as well. Hey, is someone trying to secretly resurrect interest in CL Mouse racing?

You're right about the weather too. It was perfect all day.

What a great day!!! Well, could have been better for me... but just being back with good friends and flying the little birds is really what the hobby is all about. Having Bill and Brian's kids join us made it all the better. Having such great kids come to these events insures that these are the memories that will live on. Thanks to Roger for having all of us down to Burlington and to Bob for the trophies. I realize that the small planes aren't for everyone... but I'm constantly surprised that even though the event is well known, we don't have even many club members come out to see what's going on. Heck, I manufacture vintage pattern planes, but still wouldn't give up all the fun with my Carolina Crew friends! Next race is going to be for the unlimited trophies I think... but I would like to see something different added like a Small Scale contest.... any plane but less that a .25 with a BOM. I'm just throwing that out... anybody else might like to do that?.....

I would like to see a scale event, too Dan. It could even be entered "by proxy"
But what I would rather see right now is for you guys to set up a picket line in front of Raymond's house! [>:]

One thing I forgot to mention...Thanks for the Shrike kit Rog.
I don't know what to build for the next race, I've got more Rivets, QuickShot, Shrike, and Sure Shark kits available to be built. I also kinda want to build a Yellow Jacket from plans-that plane just looks fast and cool.

On a sad note, while doing a post race clean-up it seems the green Rivets suffred a broken top spar in some of the less than perfect attmpts to fly with the TD. I've had hundreds of great flights in front of a lot of people with Skully and the green machine. I think it might be time to retire them to the wall of fame next to the Lucky Gallon Corsair.

vic, I have the magazine and can scan the construction article if you want it. I also have the plans full size, ready to print.

Thanks Dave,
I'll let you know when the time comes to pick what I'm going to do.
Honestly I'm enjoying a bit of a breather from slaving over race planes all summer. I have a few other little projects I'd like to work on before I jump back into racer mode again.

Sounds like you guys had a great time! Would have liked to have been there, but was up in Bowie, MD flying 424. My 1/2A Shrike is still ready to do battle at the next one ;-).
