I came up against this when looking for a suitable plane for my 4 stroke HP25. There just wasn't much around. Basically, you are lookng for a plane that is suited to a .15-20 2 stroke, but has enough wing to suooprt the extra weight of the 4 stroke, and one thats not a rocketship.
I ended up building an old school trainer because I couldn't find anything in ARF or kit.

Slowpoke?

The thing needs a lot of nose weight with a 2 cycle, may as well put a
4 stroke on it.

I put a Saito .30 on an e-flite edge 540, and it flies great! It is a real rocket, and when I put the battery as far back in the fuse as I could it needed no ballast. E-Flite doesn't sell these anymore, but you can find them in the buy/sell sometimes, and on e-bay often. While I was on e-flite's website though I did see this though. http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/De...ProdID=EFL2750 That would make a great conversion. I love an ultimate! Here are some pics of mine. Let us know what you choose.

I honestly havent flown it yet, Waiting on a Rx battery. But my Saito .40 was a awesome fit in this Global .25 Cub ARF. My .40 with muffler as I recall is actually about a ounce lighter than my .25FX with Muffler. Cowled in pretty well and being able to swing a 10 or 11 inch prop seems from test runs it should putt around all day at 1/2 stick. And no, I did,nt texture the floors...Its on the "Man Cave" wall And I was too lazy to find a stepladder and get it down! Todd[img][/img]

Max Power,
Be careful when you fly that cub the first time. I had one for a while with a .25 2stroke on it. The first time I flew it, I just roughly checked the CG, and thought it was close. I knew it was a little nose heavy, but thought "better a little nose heavy than a little tail heavy". WRONG! I got into an almost unrecoverable spin, then when landing it stalled at a very high speed, and broke the tail off. Long story short, make sure the CG is correct. Also, be ready for rudder when it is on the ground. Other than that, it was a good flying plane. Pretty fast actually. It will snap roll like none other. I ended up selling it to a complete beginner. Probably didn't survive the first flight...

LazyTiger 51; ARF, Very easy to assemble, strong construction (has to be in order to survive 3 years of my poor flying abilities), beautiful flyer, great combo with a Saito 30. Mine weighs just shy of 4 LBs. Not bad for a plane with 740 sq" of wing area. Gaudy yellow (and bright red underside ) wing color are for the benefit of my old eyes. Couldn't see the gray when the ship was in the air. Some guy on the auction sight has 4 or 5 of 'em. 'Bout $100 each. ...................... George K.

I looked but I guess the Super Sportster 20 is OOP. They fly very well.
Ooh, how about a GeeBee: http://www.nitroplanes.com/gee-bee-25-rc-plane.html

Maybe a House Of Balsa P-51 kit? Not certain of the nose weight requirement but I think the wing loading should be fairly low for a warbird.

RE: 30 4 stroke looking for a home
I have a Saito 30 on a House of Balsa PT-19. Flies great. I've never seen any of the 30 4-strokes (OS, Magnum, or Saito) that didn't run great. The PT19 is a great kit and a good flyer with this engine. Mine is covered in fabric and painted so it's a little heavy but still flies well.

jet fixer as a fellow air force member why did you sell a plane you couldnt fly to a beginner. were supposed to support the hobby and try to get more people involved all the time. this guy went out crashed it and probably quit. LOL It also sounded like you cub was tail heavy or you had a warped wing. not trying to be to harsh on ya lol maybe the air force coming out in me.
the HB p-51 would be a great kit for the 30. I have an OS 30 that i juiced up to turn a 8x7 apc at 16,500. I plan to put this in the HB P-51 with retracts. should be close to 100 mph

airraptor,
After I got the kinks worked out in it, it flew fine. It just didn't fly like a cub. Also, I didn't know the guy was brand new to the hobby until after he had paid for it and I met him to give him the plane. Maybe he did alright with it. He said he had been working on a simulator. That's worth something...right?

RE: 30 4 stroke looking for a home
I am working a deal right now on a OS .20 four stroke. I am going to try and make a Great Planes Piper Cub 25e kit (not ARF) fly with it. Because I will be building it I will be trying to make it as light as possible and relocate the onboard gear more aft to compinsate for the weight.
