Something slow for an 020
So Ive got a couple peewee's looking for homes. I want to build something simple and slow that I can fly on a lazy day at the park (double football field). I was thinking of building a "lastick" with one but after the youtube video of it going mach 10 doing rolls, I dont think its what Im looking for! If anyone has any ideas and/or plans, that would be greatly appreciated!
Maybe some kind of sailplane thing.... I dont know.

I vote for a School Boy or Lightning Bug available at Select Hobbies. They are built-up laser cut balsa kits. The LaStick would be very quick with an .020. I fly mine with a TD.010 and it's still pretty feisty. A fun plane, though, that you could fly in that space just fine if you've got some RC flight experience. The small glow planes are a blast. Good luck.

Hmm. I was thinking of those, but Id like something from plans that I can just pick the wood up locally instead of getting shipped.

The Tomboy was Gordon's (My Father) suggestion for a first model for my pb 0.20 diesel.
I too would be interested in a set of plans.

Thermic 50 R/C - you can get a plan and printwood from Penn Valley Hobby Center:

Flies nice with an 010, a Pee Wee would be similar.

"Anything good on line?"
Head to rcgroups.com and look the Vintage and oldtimers forum. There you'll find my Airtrails posts. We've been swapping a lot of PDF files, as RC Groups supports those files and this forum does not. I've posted quiet a few 1/4a old timers, so you'll have a lot of choice. Also, I have a nice 1/4a Mini-Madcap that just might be what your looking for. PM me with your e-mail and I'll sent it to you.

Dickeybird's (Miton) P-Jay that he entered into the 1/2A Design Contest of yesteryear is another great choice.
I didn't get a chance to look back in old threads to find a picture or a link, but it looks and flies great on a Pee Wee .020.
Also instructions on how to run keep the engine running reliably.

Forsakenrider, you need to vist another site of Dave's, and that is his Keith Laumer page: Lots of 1/2 and 1/4a designs for your PeeWees. http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/Laumer/Laumer-Page.html

The School Boy makes a great little flier with light radio and Pee Wee .020. I used a 150 mAH pack, 6G servos and regular receiver. About 3 to 4 minute engine runs and if you can find a thermal about 30 to 45 minute flights!!

With a PeeWee engine and micro RC gear, I believe a Midwest 'Sniffer' would make an outstanding small field flyer. Laser kit or plans are available. Jim

However, if you like the unusual, I saw this pic in a newsletter that has a Pee Wee on it. I'm gonna call it a sesquiplane or a canard. Leaning towards canard. Hard to tell for sure but it also looks like an elepant head? Dumbo kinda sorta?
Lets just say if you had one it just might be the only one at the field!

Ok Robert,
Since we're on to small "Odd" British designs, how about this one. I have no idea what it is, but I got it out of one of the Raynes Park newsletters.
chuck
By the way Forsaken, I have the Tomboy plan if interested. PM me.

Chuck, I like that one too! Yeah I found the blue plane with orange wings in one of the Raynes newsletters.
I love seeing those things. Very creative. Wonders what kind of beer they were drinking to encourage them! Maybe something exotic like Stroh's or Jax beer?

Robert,
I have a few friends on the "Other side of the big pond" which I can contact to see if I can get an article or plan on this thing. If so, I'll share.

RE: Something slow for an 020
If you want slower and close in with safety then something in the 36 inch span region would be the way to go. How large is the full sized Tomboy?
Alternately something like that Thermic, Ted Strader Nomad or similar powered glider would be hard to beat if built to around 45 to 48 inch span.
RC Modeler has a plan called the Tern that would be superb with an .020 on the power pod. I built one years ago as a pure glider and it was a really fun little model. Hint, if you build one DEFINETLY use good spruce for the spars.... you already know why since I made a point of saying this....
Another option would be to blow up this CAD file I created recently of a classic small French design. In stock it's 35 inch span. Blown up to 48'ish with an added power pod would be perfect. The hollow "semi profile" built up fuselage would be entirely big enough for our modern small radio gear to fit. I can supply a proper sized blown up CAD file to which you would need to add extra ribs and stuff as suggested by common sense and experience or I can provide Acrobat files of the original size for printing on legal sized paper that you tape together.
The offer stands for any other small glider fans as well. Just PM me an email address to send the files to.
