It will fit but is a poor choice for that airplane. An .049 or .061, either Big Mig or preferrably AME will be better.

Thank you for the info. I have a Norvel .061 not sure which one it is? It doesn't have a throttle. I also have a .049TD Which would be best? One last question what's out their that is a good choice for the norvel 074?

I can't think of too many off the shelf kits that would be "meant" for the .074, but any 1/2A that is on the large side wing area wise would be a good candidate. As far as the TD vs. Norvel, I'd go with the Norvel every time regardless of if it was a big mig or AME.

ETA: The Hummer does fly very well on a TD though. I even used a throttle sleeve on mine back in the day.

When that was introduced about 20 years or so ago quite a few of us built and flew them. All used the TD 049 on pressure and high nitro, and all were 2 channel.
My personnel opinion of this model and all of the HOB 1/2A warbird kits, and all similar small models is that they fly best as a 2 channel plane and kept as light as possible.

I tend to lean towards the .074 Norvel. Just started on a Hummer kit a few days ago. Looking at the plan, it's obvious that the plane is bigger than the Simple 400 that I have (powered by a Norvel .061). Much bigger fuselage, thick wing (with symetrical airfoil, & 18% more area), & gonna weigh more than the Simple. With lite-weight electrics, and no landing gear, I think that this would make a nice home for the Norvel. .......................George K.

The Herr pitts is a good choice for the 0.074.

I had the hummer with both 074 and 049 norvel throttled engines. I really liked it with the 074. It had a lot more power. With the 049 it didn't have much vertical performance. I think I used a 2 oz tank with the 074.

I aslo flew the hummer with a Himax HG2015-4166. I used the lowest gear ratio and a 9x6 prop and this was also a good combo.

With the 049 you should get someone to handlauch the maiden for you. I think it pulled away with the 074 pretty well.

I used to have a hummer with an unthrottled big mig .061. It went like the clappers! The .061 would be my recommendation. The hummer is a fairly 'slippery' plane and although I have never owned a .074, from all accounts, the .061 will do better on a light, fast airframe. Put a small prop on it and toss it in the air and hang on for the ride.
Mine met its demise when I dumb thumbed it into the ground while showing off doing low inverted passes. The wing survived unscathed and went on to live another life. I still have the plans for the hummer and keep thinking about scratch building another. This time I would probably use my throttled .061, and look for whatever weight savings I could find. My first used standard sized servos and rx but still flew fast. Not much vertical though, but the hummer was originally designed for 1/2A pylon and sport flying, not 3d.

Didn't want to start a whole new thread for two questions.. The landing gear supplied with the these days is .039" (1.00mm). Is this the same as before? Is it up to the task?

I use the current replacement gear on lots of 1/2A and 1/2A sized electric planes weighing up to 20 ounces with no trouble at all.

I think the .074 on a 6-4 prop would be a great powerplant for the Hummer. They have had more motor on them than that before.
