JK Aerotech Slickmount
Hello,
Has anyone ever used one of these (JK Aerotech Slickmount)? It is a film canister fuel tank, two vents, clunk with machined aluminum backplate that attaches to Cox plastic backplate. I just ordered 2 .
Thanks,

I have one mounted to my Cox engine test stand and use it frequently for breaking-in and troubleshooting pesky .049s. Neat looking rig. While the engine is running I find it necessary to cap off the top fill tube or the propwash will create a vacuum and draw out your fuel supply very quickly making a big mess at the same time. I bought 2 of them last year with intentions of flying them but didn't trust the tank to seal reliably in a plane and figured it would allow lots of fuel to leak past the firewall. I've heard of others having fuel-foaming problems due to vibrations but have never noticed it on my test stand setup. My experience FWIW.

I purchased a couple of them and affixed some recent Cox .049's to them. They ran great!
Makes for a slick installation too. (pun intended) Have mounted in a Lanier Indicator but have not flown it. Based upon numerous runs on a test mount I don't expect any more difficulty with the slickmount than I do with a BlackWidow. Engine starts strong, vasciallates around for a bit and then around 3/4 tank starts running very well and then becomes sporadic at around 1/4 tank and then strong as a mule just before running dry.
Bought a gallon of Wildcat 30% nitro 16% oil fuel, added 6 oz of castor to it. The engines seem to love it.
My guess is in the air the engine will do better if it will just keep running long enough to gain some altitude and forward momentum. Maybe one day in the Spring I'll find out!

There are a lot of posts on this forum (a couple of years ago) about film can tanks. Not all film cans are made equal; some are more susceptible to splitting than others.
I have a (was) a really neat model hanging on my office wall that I am not able to fly again because of fuel soakage caused by a split canister on the slick mount.
