Default Herr Little Extra + Magnum XLS .15 + What servos???

Hey all i have done a little reading but am still not sure which way to go. As stated i have a purple little extra and an Mag .15 for the nose. I have available the HS55's and also the HS81's. Do you think the 81's are necc. because of the extra power up front or am i fine with the 55's. Or should i mix and match???

thanks in advance

Geoff

Got the same plane/engine combo. Using HXT 900 servos (about $3.50 ea.) appear to be the same servo as Tower-Pro 9G. Gears look to be a little heavier than a HS 55. I've never lost a 55 in the air, but the slightest bump of a control surface (usually while putting the plane in, or getting it out of the car)is almost a guaranty that the gear train will be damaged. I'd probably feel better with the HS-56HB or the 81, but the price difference is substantial. .................... George K.

This [link=http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/eflight/calcs_servo.htm]site[/link] will give you an idea whether the 55s will be sufficient. The 55s should be fine but the 81's will give you peace of mind.

If you're shopping, try Hitec HS-65s. Their specs are mid-way between the 55's and 81's and the gears are rock solid.

I have the 81's on hand and have the HXT 500's which are pretty much the same as the 55's. The 81's are an easy install for the ailerons, but will require a little carving to get them to fit for the rudder and elevator. I also have one Futaba 3111 (i think that's the number??) that i can put on the elevator and just put a 500 on the rudder and a 500 for the throttle. I like peace of mind!!!

I personally use only metal gear servo's in the tail for that same piece of mine. One time as I was taking off the tail wheel hit a rock and stripped the gear out of one of my 81's. SInce then I use mg servo's for my rudder and elevator and haven't had an incident since. This happened years ago with another plane with a steerable nose wheel....no rudder in air is not fun.

On my lil extra I use 55's in the ailerons, 65mg in rudder and a 65hb in my elevator.

Don't bother with karbonite servos, they are strong but brittle.

I would run hs-81mg's all a round cept throttle.

I had terrible experiences with karbonite gears in my stand servos, HS-425s, I think. But from what I've seen on this forum, people seem to like the karbonite on the small servos.

I just finished one with an old OS Pet .10FSR. I decided on HS81's for the rudder and elevator with 55's on the ailerons and throttle. JR 2.4 receiver and 1200mah (all that I had) 7.4 volt LiPo with a Castle speed control for voltage regulation. I could not have gone for a lighter battery anyway as I had to place the battery as far forward as I could get it to ballance. I also was not happy with the coverint job. Out of the box it looked great but the covering was just laying on the frame. I had to redo the entire plane and I had a very difficult time getting the covering to attatch to the plane, not good.

I've got the same servo setup as bps but I have yet to fly it. Waiting on some extra time and good weather. It's got an OS 15LA on it.
