Default Cox backplate questions

O.k. gurus, I need some help. I got a couple of Black Widows and Baby Bees and had just noticed that on a couple of them, on the center of the backplate the little screen is missing. I would like to know is it replaceable, and if so with what and where. As well, if it is not replaceable, what effects will it have on my engines. What is that screen for, and what does it do? Thanks in advance for your help.

good news so far then. With that screen removed, would the fuel not leak out of the hole quick?

The screen is only an air filter, the hole is the venturie (carby) intake, no fuel should leak out under normal conditions- unless fuel tank is pressureised when filling or the o'ring backplate to tank seal is leaking.

A gassed up reedie is pretty well house broken, with or without the screen. I suppose they can dribble fuel to a certain level over time if laying just right.

The screen is usually swaged in place. It will run well without but if you start having starting trouble, suspect a foreign object under the reed.
