Norvel .015 help needed
Hi All. Does anyone have a fix for that silly clip that holds the muffler on? Mine broke and and now the muffler won't seal tight. I have a machine shop so that type of work isn't a problem. Thanks Terry

Boy, that's a tough one. The retainer clip will be pretty difficult to fabricate. You might be able to make a couple of wire yokes that attach to each side of the muffler using the two screws closest to the engine exhaust as yoke mounts. Hook a spiral spring into one yoke, wrap around the cylinder and hook into the other yoke.
The muffler type that Rog posted about has ears with holes for the spring - NORVEL moved to the spiral spring retainer after so many clips and mufflers were lost when it popped off.
Sheldon's Hobbies has a store on eBay that regularly lists a lot of new in package parts for NORVEL. You might check them out or see if you can contact them - it's possible that they may have some clips or a muffler set that uses the spiral spring retainer. If Sheldon's can help out, it might be a good idea to see if they also have a pack or two of the O-ring seals.

Yes sir, I have read a lot of comments about that clip-on norvel 15 muffler[:-]
I think I have seen a picture of someone who had milled side of the engine flat and then used a muffler from a bigger OS style (include all chinese clone engine here) muffler. They had made a plate that went on the other side of the engine and then had long screws that just cleared the case sides.
.... or perhaps I just dreamed it...

Well I put a little thought into attaching the muffler to the engine without that little clip. I think it will work, but I'm not real crazy about the springs going around the head. But it was easy to do and will get by for now.

No, that was me, as pictured.
Terry, Send me a PM with your address and I'll fire one off to you gratis.
EDIT:
Just in case those springs don't hold.
GOD, how I hate that "muffler".

Whats wierd is, mine is older?...but I dont have the angled needle valve,,never actually ran mine, but loaned it out, I hear its a screamer...I dont think the springs will hurt anything, probably help dissapate a little heat more....looks like a good idea to me...springs probably wont last more than a season before they need replacing from the heat...Rog
