Default RE: I just bought my Herr little extra...

I was going to get another one but towers out of stock. I'd recommend the XLS .15 thats what I have and it is my favorite plane to fly. I did add the 4oz. tank. I'm running a 8x3 MAS prop hs-55 on the control surfaces and a hs-82mg for the throttle 600mah RX batt. very good flying plane!!! one of these days I'll post a video of it, roll rate is very impressive. and it recovers from tumbles instantly.

on the engine; make sure you seal it good. I'd recommend breaking it in on the bench. it takes a while to be fully broke in.(longer then the manual claims) the guys on here helped me out quite a bit. my engine tuned for flight is pulling the 8x3 mas prop at 18300 rpm. it transitions smooth and I haven't had a dead stick since it has been fully broke in.

following advice in here, I made a battery tray between the servo tray and the bulkhead where the tank mounts and that balanced the plane out. I used a dremal to open up the opening for the 2oz tank to fit a sullivan 4oz tank. the only other recommendation I can thank of is to swap out the factory throttle push rod setup with something better, you will have to swap the throttle from the left side of the plane to the right anyways so that would be the time to do it. I had problems with the push rod binding thats why I switched to a stronger servo for the throttle.

I have two MAGNUM15 XLS one NIB, the one Im running has tuned pipe and APC 7 x 5 gives 20,100 rpms its a real blast .
Buy Tower Pro 9 gr servos at 3.65 dlls each at hobbyking.com they'r strong and much better than futaba, hitec etc .. servos that size.

That would be a perfect choice for your extra.

Best regards.

Looks like I got mine just in time!

I do have a couple of questions for yall. How did you fit the 4 oz tank in? I looked at carving the formers out but that wouldnt leave much meat left. And I have 3 HS-55 servos and 2 Futaba S3114 servos. Would that combo be ok?

Thanks.

HXT, FUTABA, HS ....you name it, none of them include grommetsto avoid vibration,I been flying whit HXT9 for almost one year without problems and if they ever stop working ok, I ' ll just throw 'm away and buy new ones no problem at $ 3.65 each

GH, I run the Dubro 4oz tank. I fit it by Dremeling out the bulkheads just enough to slide it in. It works great andthe fusestill plenty strong up front. With an OS 15LA, I usually limit my flights to 10 minuteswith safe reserves.

As far as rubber mounting goes, I often run the screws through small pieces of fuel line under the servo tab in areas where vibration is a concern.

Flew my Little Extra yesterday for the 1st time in a couple of months and it's still a blast. What a nice little plane.

Looks like I was the only one to take a Lil' Extra to the SMALL Fly-In. Flew it several times Friday and Saturday and enjoyed it as usual. I wish they wouldcontinue tomake them since they are so fun to fly.

Anyone know how it'll fly on a Norvel .074? Would this be enough power? I'm sure it'll keep the weight down and be a floater though...

A friend of mine has one with a Norvel .074. It's a little too much plane to be a real aerobatic performer, but it does fly.

This is what I built for the .074.

I plan on put a 15la on mine and I ordered some new tower hobbies serves and I am wondering if anyone has seen or used these yet here is a link to them. I wanted a little more power than a hs-55 so I was going to go with 81s but then I seen these and there just a hair larger in size. Plus there a little cheaper and that me www.towerhobbies.com/promos/09ma/towm4515m_e.html

No experience with the Tower servos but the 15LA is a great engine for that plane. Works for me. I saw a .15FP new in the box at SMALL for $25 and wished I had snapped it up when I had the chance. I thought about it too long and someone else got it.

If Magnum is coming out with a cheaper engine than the OS,,its not gonna be a ball bearing engine....the xls is a power house,,but again the os .15 is a sweet engine,,I have another plane in the box too...hardly flown this year.....gonna sell off some stuff this year...other projects you know....Rog

I have the teal one with an OS .10FSR that I have had forever. Nice combo and flies fast enough for me at full throttle. Could use more zip but still a nice flyer with the .10. To bad this is gone I should have bought 2 but I thought they would just fix the poor covering and remake them.

I plan on tracing the parts and cutting my own kit maybe this winter. Hate to sacrifice a flying plane for patterns, but my laser cutter is just aching to cut the little extra! Any one have parts of this plane they could trace and send to me?

I might even try this as a profile, that would be interesting.

I was wondering if you have to use a muffler exstension on the 15's ? I have a 25 year old O.S. Max 15 (never been run) that hits the fuse with the muffler. I am going to have to carve the fuse if I am going to use this engine. Any one else have to do any carving other than putting in the 4oz tank? I bought two of these one to fly and one for parts lol.

well the battery is almost dead,,, but I took it outside to fire it up and the muffler came off and the needle valve came loose and she ran like crap,, guess I need to do a little work on it so I can make it air worthy again,,gosh I'd hate to have to take that ugly teal one out of the box.....Rog

guess I need to so surgurey to get the 15 to work. I have a O.S. 10 and it seems to have the same problem or atleast real close. What does the bigger engine do to the CG? I won't have to install the battery in the tail will I? I can't wait to get this in the air. I still have to break in the 15 (hope it runs).

I am using the OS .10FSR on mine with the OS muffler extension. Places the muffler enough outside the fuse with plenty of clearance for muffler cooling.
