I am looking at a .15 size motor, Magnum has just come out with a new .15 with the blue head for less money than the la .15 from os. Which should I choose? and what servos should I run (hitec).

The magnum is a better engine over the OS? I dont care about the money I just want the more reliable motor.

An engine has to pass the test of time before it can be called a good engine. If this Magnum .15 is brand new, then your question is difficult to answer. The guys who really know their .15s....1 against the other, are over in the RC Combat forum..

You're gonna love that plane. My first one is powered by an Enya .11. Wanted to try a .15 size, & after buying two "loser" engines, I watched this forum for awhile & went along with what most guys seemed to recommend; the Magnum .15 xls. This makes for quite a "spirited" combination. I'm gonna be using the 8x4 "trainer" prop for quite awhile, until I get accustomed to the performance of this engine. With a 7x5, this old man's reflexes aren't keeping up with the plane. .................... A lot of different servos will work, & you'll probably get a lot of different preferences from a lot of different folks. I'll only say that the hs 55 units have very fragile gears, & that I like to use the Hextronics hxt 900 units. They seem to be the same servo as the Tower-Pro 9g units, have beefier gears than the hs 55, & are dirt cheap from Hobby City. ............. Even though both of my Lil' Extras are in good shape, I just bought a 3rd one, (sort of a spare-in-a-box). Like I said, "Youre gonna love that plane." ....................... George K.

The Magnum XLS is a ball bearing, 2 needle engine and the OS LA is a bushed, 1 needle/airbleed engine. The Magnum has more power. The OS 15CV-A is hotter than either.

I do not have the money for the CVA sadly but I like the idea of the two needle magnum, is she reliable and easy to dial in?

You should have fun with your plane no matter which engine you decide on. Mine flies great with it's OS 15LA. I like the simplicity of the OS LA series and have had good luck with them in several sizes on several planes. I have no experience with the Magnum .15s but hear great things about them and that they're probably more powerful. Either way is overkill fun on the Lil' Extra. I used HS-81 servos in the rear, and HS-55s for throttle and ailerons. In hindsight, I'd put bigger servos in the ailerons next time as the 55s are pretty dainty for the forces that plane can dish out with a .15 on it. Like lots of others, I like it so much that I recently bought a spare one to keep in the box for the day when mine expires. It's a great value.

Had one with a magnum xls.15 it was a blast,, but the os .15la is a perfect match at twice the power requirement of the plant, balances well,, flies great...I have another in a box too,,its my favorite combo...Rog

They are really awsome little buggers, very durable too, mine got slamed into the ground last weekend and cart-wheeled into a chainlink fence. Only damage was the top stringers on the turtledeck, now she's getting a new covering job, but that's ok.

Mine comes in today! I cannot wait!So I think to save a bit of money i will go with the Magnum 15. But what would be a suitable four stroke for this plane? I have an OS 26 FS, and 40 fs sitting around would this work?

A 4-stroke is to heavy for this bird. Stay with the XLS .15 and you really enjoy it. One suggestion is to change the fuel tank our for 4 ounce tank for a longer flight time.

I 2nd the idea of the larger tank. It's so much fun to fly that you won't want to run out of fuel so fast. I squeezed a rectangular Dubro 4oz tank in mine after opening up the bulkheads with a Dremel tool. I usually fly around 10 minutes with fuel to spare.

Yea, it's a nice little plane for the money... I never thought I'd find myself flying an BARF, but hey, the price was right. [8D]

Mine flies very spirited on a Magnum XL .15, (3) HS-55s, (2) HS-81s, a Berg 4L and 750 mAh NiMH battery. I was a bit concerned with going so far over the recommended weight, but at 29 ounces it's still a floater!

See: http://home.comcast.net/~jbwebst/le1a.wmv for a short video of my 'Lil Extra on approach...

Hope this helps... (to spread the infection)

-Joe

Anyone know how it'll fly on a Norvel .074? Would this be enough power? I'm sure it'll keep the weight down and be a floater though...

A friend of mine has one with a Norvel .074. It's a little too much plane to be a real aerobatic performer, but it does fly.

This is what I built for the .074.

What Sig has on hand is all there is. And they don't have many. Got it straight from the guys at Sig when I stopped by the other day.
