Default Cox .020 heads

I am happy to report that the progress is coming along well for the Cox Pee Wee heads from Merlin. they will be an insert type head like the Norvel but just scaled down to fit the .020. I understand the cost will be similar to the Merlin 1/2A drop in heads.
Another thing. His .049 heads are made from nickle plated steel so the expansion rate is the same as the cylinder so the head gaskets will seal longer. Yet his clamp rings are aluminum so there is good heat dissipation. Hopefully the .020 heads will be the same.
You may see a definite compression increase with the Merlin heads on the Pee Wee or TD .020 I know he is addressing the situation.

Well somebody has to acknowledge you here.. so I will. Cool! Hope they work out, I can use a couple and that might coax me to make something .020-ish again. Even if it is just a free flight Li'l Toot or the like (I made a template set years ago, might even have a set of parts cut). I always liked Pee Wees for small FF fun, in the past when they were available readily I wouldn't cry too much if I smacked or lost one. A bit though.

Just hope to spread the word to my fellow modelers . I have tried with great frustration for some time now to find new 020 heads and aside from paying a bunch of money on the bay came up empty handed. The best i could do there was like $15 each and when you see them for 3 for $15 with a clamp ring and brand new well made product I get excited. Sorry if I seem overzealous but I like to give credit where it is due to the people that make this hobby better by producing what we need especially if it is something obscure like an 020 plug since he probably won't make anything on but offers it to keep a sweet little engine from falling into oblivion.
I understand after our conversation several moons ago he obtained several 020s for testing and has been having a ball running them and setting up the new heads for them.

If my own collection is any indication, there are a bazillion .020's lying around gathering dust wanting for this part or that or at least no more than some TLC, but glow heads are definitely up there on the list.

I hope to see these soon!

I couldn't believe I could find .010 heads cheaper and easier . And these Merlin 1/2A plugs really have transformed my humble Baby Bee into a nice runner. Cant' say enough good about em, starts easier runs better.
I only have 2 Pee Wees but with only one good glow head, not for each, I mean one period.

I think the reason for this is that the .010 customer typically didn't run his engine much, if at all. There are more NIB .010's than any other Cox engine. Plugs for the .010 are very plentiful.

I do not believe there are any plans for an 010 head, sorry. I think we are kinda pushing the threshold with profitability on the .020 ones. I get the feeling they are more a gift to us as 020 enthusiasts from Merlin. Due to the complexity of the design and the low sales potential as opposed to say a standard glow plug that will sell 1000 times more.
I understand the 020 plugs can be used in some other applications . I think there is a racing engine that takes a similar style ? I have been unable to confirm this so if anybody can tell me if there is an engine that requires a small Norvel style head I would appreciate it.

Maybe we could just retap the top of the cylinder to fit standard plugs..?

It should be possible to machine a clamp style plug down to be used in an .010, modding a burnt .010 plug to use as a clamp.

The other applications may refer to the other .020 engines out there, and possibly the gmark.

I am looking forward to trying these plugs out.

IIRC the Fora .020 also uses the Cox .020 glow head?
I believe those are the ones that I've seen on ebay being sold w/o a head...the seller says it uses a Cox glow head?

..that is what I was palnning to use them in.  The Fora .020 did come in a version that could take a cox .020 head, but I doubt it would run better than a peewee with one.
I would be very, very suspicious of the Foras you see on ebay- all the ones I have seen were "kit" engines as they came from fora. [:'(]

you actually have to re-port [X(] them to make them go, so you don`t want to be paying $200 for one- i would think anything less than $40 would be fair.

BTW The stock fora .020 turns a cox 4.5x2 .020 prop at about  12,000. a peewee will spin the same prop at least 15k and i know which engine is cheaper!

Any recent word on the 020 Cox plugs and clamp?
