Default Graupner Mini Taxi conversion

Hi everyone!

Icouldn't resist the urge to buy this Graupner Mini Taxi at the LHS and was thinking about powering it with my PAW 55BR C/L.
Originaly, this model is powered by a 7.2V Speed 400 direct driving a 7x4 prop on 8 NiMHcells; searching for power equivalencies, this motor should put out around 50W on the prop, while my 55 was turning a 7x5 MAS at 8100 on its second fuel tank. They should go somewhat hand in hand power wise.
Do you guys reckon I should get a bigger engine? Both PAW 049 and 06 seem to be ported for speed rather than grunt like the 55. My LHS has a Norvel 049 C/L, but I wouldn't like to go glow, due to needing specific high nitro fuel and a glow driver (same reason, why I'm not considering one of my Surestarts)

I'll post photos tomorrow

Seems like I might need a bigger engine Still, Martin, don't forget the little PAW has no throttle, it would run at WOT. Besides, my only rc diesel is already mounted on the Hyperion Cub, the other PAW 09 I have is C/L...

PATXIPT You can pick up an rc carb ( order ) for the 03 it might be a little pricy 30$ ?? however it would allow conversions of some smaller elctric conversions too down the road martin

and you cannot get a decent engine for $30

I think the PAW 06 RC might be ideal, it feels very similar in character as the 03, it is just a bit larger. The 03 in CL version might do just fine, you could try with a 6x4 prop also. Just give it a try since you already have the engine.

The 09 is a screamer on an 8x4 prop, and will surely be too large for that plane!
I have an 09 in RC version in a TT Scooter (about 750grams) and it ROGS at less then half throttle on an 8x4...

I reckon this plane will weight less than 600gr ready to fly, so I might give the little 03 a chance. Fixing the engine directly on the firewall (6mm in stock form ) won't do, I need leverage. I tried my 10LA on the firewall and it will balance the plane at CG with a baterry pack behind the firewall. With the short F1 nose moment, Graupner resorted to an extended motor mount as stock. Ah well...

The plane is almost finished, it just needs the receiver and a fuel tank.
I have changed the trycyle landing gear to a 2 wheel setup a la Cub, which helped having a good weight distribution.
As is, it measures 550gr on the scale

I have fabricated a tin fuel tank, it holds around 30cc of fuel, and isolated the frontal area from the rest of the fuselage.
