Default Jr Falcon Almost Finished

Finally got some time to cover the fuselage for my Jr Falcon last night. Just need to cover the fin and rudder next. Monokote hinges should work fine. Need to put foam around the receiver, mount the switch and balance the model. Be ready for a maiden this week. Using a Sure Start that Tim Wiltse did his magic on before he disappeared. It has a large tank with a larger intake hole per Tim.

On R/O? Cool! I was very surprised when I tossed my first Jr Falcon, a model that was most definitely on the high side of the weight range! Used a stock TD .049 and 6-3 MAS on a tank mount, and the thing had about twice the power to weight I envisioned, and was very spritely. And it could thermal too as I found out. Wonderful aircraft.

So how is the project going? My jr Falcon is a fine bird, very solid in the air.

Have not had time to do anything to it since I posted due to my 7 day a week job. I am off the next two days for a colonoscopy, so I should find time to finish it and maybe a maiden.

Hi rrrengineer,

I love the Jr Falcon, the whole set in fact. I have a Jr and the others waiting for me. That is a lovely model, thanks for the pics.

A bit off topic but I have had some experience of a variety of medical investigations. They didn't hurt but there was another factor involved.

I had a Barium Meal/Enema, a heavy metal used to aid an X Ray investigation. I was not aware of the relative density of Barium, it IS dense.

I went home after the investigation and voided my bowels in the EXTRA toilet, it's equipped with a pumped maceration system using 3/4" pipe.

The Barium is too heavy to be carried by the normal flush of a toilet. I had to "lower the barium by hand".

Best of luck.

Good to see you all building some of these fun "oldies." Back in the early 60's, I built a Jr Falcon, powered with an .049, and rudder only. It would ROG, fly well, and I could land it right in front of me. Great airplane. I went on a nostalgia trip two years ago and got plans for the Jr. Falcon from AMA Plans service. This time, I put an OS LA .15 up front, small servos for aileron, elevator, rudder, engine, small battery pack, no dihedral, and it flies like a gem. Very fast, so need to throttle back. It'll do most aerobatics, and can easily be hand launched. Some of the "old guys" (which I am also) in our club remember this model and enjoy seeing it fly. This one was a great design in the original time, and still is. Have fun with yours. Lee

Nice build. I remember having this kit years ago. I also had the JR Skylark converted to twin using two Cox .020's.

My plans show the CG at exactly 2-5/8" behind the leading edge of the wing. That's a good place to start and you might move it back a little if you need to after a few flights. Good luck and please post your pictures. Lee

I haven't weighed mine, but it has 5 (small not miniature) servos, an OS LA .15, and I tend to build a little heavy with extra plywood here and there for strength, so mine is much heavier than yours. It really depends on the engine you choose, but 500g should be no problem. If you ROG, and it doesn't want to come off, you might be a little underpowered. I can hand launch mine (a little up trim), then it almost flies out of my hand. I have to hand launch because we have a grass field. Lee

I have one of these that's 43 years old. I would really like to build another one, is there anyone who cuts these kits? I've tried and don't have the talent to do one myself.

Try Early RC Models - http://www.earlyrcmodels.com/ They have quite a few of the older models with laser cut parts.

Also, Steve has them here, and since it's also CA, you'll save shipping time. The Jr. Falcon is just short of 1/2 wasy down the page.

Great first flight. Congratulations. When you put the LA .10 in, be sure to manage the throttle, as it will be much faster. Lee

Stunt23,

Thanks for posting the clip of your Jr. Falcon.

I don't think I have ever seen so many birds sharing the airspace with a model before!

Silvaire...
You have to go to the SMALL meet in Little Rock. The Hosting club has a "Condo" type birdie house for the local Martin's right at the pits. They swoop around and scoop up all the Arkansas bugs that would otherwise get up your nose and or tickle your legs whilst you are exercising your thumbs.

The vid didn't want to load then I noticed the HD box. What a superb film, the model looked brilliant but the vid exceeds any I have seen, congrats!

My friend the camera man said the birds are low because the insects they hunt came down because just before raining humidity increses and they can fly no more at great altitudes!
Thats what he said he learned in flight school.
Thanks for the congrats!I`ll post another video when I`ll put the .10 in it which will not be soon.(in a month or so)

Stunt, I noticed that the newspaper under one of the in-process photos is in English. Is English spoken widely in Romania? Lee
