Congrats to skaliwag

RE: Congrats to skaliwag
First landing (not by me) was on a fairly short grass field with gusty sidewind, so all over the place on the approach and then came down a little hard. So just like any other landing I would do with 1/2a planes...

WOW! way cool. Keep us posted on the progress; your flying lessons and the plane. As a vote of one I here by direct you to start a build thread on the plane. Heck it is the scale documentation of your model right?

That's gorgeous looking work! With the covering stretched tight over the whole works, I can see how it would be tremendously strong and light. Plus MG rounds will pass right through it without doing any harm.
Do you have a helmut [with a spike] to wear yet?

I must add my congratulations as well. You are to be commended!
I have to ask, What kind of bearings are used in the rudder and elevator?

Was zum Teufel? (German for "What the Fokkker?") Is that what I think it is? Are you going to change your last name to Immelmann?
Very nice! What a dream come true it would be to fly in an open cockpit.

OK Steve, time to tell the boys what engine you're using.
Very nice work! I see nice wooden jigs and building tables so that's where the carpentry expertise comes in.

To All ... Thanks again for the support and kind words.. Life is good.
Brian..
See pic for gun.. It's made from a piece of 4" Schedule 120 PVC pipe and .025 Alum sheet. I think the guy now has one that has a trigger mechanism that torches a measured charge of butane.

Better not do a thread... Way off topic... We'll just keep progress under the radar here. I'll let all know when a milestone passes. I don't expect to be flying until next fall.
CP.. I have the word out for a helmet. One antique dealer I know says he saw on in a 'Junk" store on the waterfront in Seattle last year down by the ferries.

You are right ... It is a Fokker E111. 3/4 scale . I hoping to dress it up as the one that was captured on April 8th 1916. Airplane # 210/16 work # 509. Plenty of info on the web about this particular airplane. It is the only "Real" one left in existence.
My new name is .. Oberleutnant Siegfreid von Langsamerflieger.
DB..
I think I am going with the 998cc V Twin Briggs Vangaurd. Valley engineering puts out a package of the motor/ 1:1.8 re-drive/ prop for $5K
Couldn't have done it with out wooden Jigs. I think I have more time thinking about how to and making jigs and fixtures than actual building.

Havn't done much to the Fokker lately... Too darn cold in the workshop and other things have stole my spare time. But the good news is that I have bought a Cessna 152 N757AY. The bad news is it is stuck in Burlington, INDIANA ( BMG ). Any locals wanting to talk to me about getting my new bird to (usually sunny) California please feel free to give me a jingle.

Congratulations, Steve. That's gonna be a heck of a x-country this time of year. My biennial is long overdue and the rust is thick. Otherwise I'd be glad to help.
