Default ACE Me 109

hi,

I recently got an ACE R/C me 109, I read threads about covering the wings with low temp film or even sheeting the wings with balsa, what about covering the whole model with brown paper and PVA glue and painting it with enamels? Would it mean a lot of extra weight? And if brown paper is too heavy what about using tissue and PVA glue?

What do you think about it?

Thank you
David

i use ultracoat on mine. light, tough, makes its own hinges. i don't sheet the wings. tried it once, defeated the purpose of building a "simple" kit! just tape like instructed and go on. don't make a BRICK out of it!

I did like Wild Fred. Use a strip of 3/4 in. fiberglass strapping tape for a spar (top and bottom), then use Ultracote for the hinges and covering.

Set your iron low, and gradually work your way up. I think I was like around 240 degrees. One of the top builders in our club was fooled into thinking I had sheeted the wing first. They turn out that nice.

Default re me 109

thank you!

I would use ultracote, but all I can get is oracover or solartex and not in the colors I'd like for a 109.
Like you're saying these kits are supposed to be "simple", but I believe color makes half of a model.
I wonder how rooster287 finished his .

take a look! :surprised

cover it in 3/4 ounce fiberglass, after sanding the glass you can prep it with rustoleum primer and finish in Rustoleum.

oracover is ultracoat. it is sold under ultracoat name in u.s., but it says oracover on the backing. painting g-62 stuff is fine.if you cover 1/2a stuff in fiberglass and paint it I will fly rings around your BRICK!

Go to the Ezone and take a look for some of Jim Ryan's speed 400 'Bricks'.

Do it right and it's light

well I took a look at jim ryan's models, no doubt he's a master ,but I've never used fiberglass before, I'm afraid I'll make a big mess if I use that technique now .
I will try with some foam cores I have both the oracover and the fiberglassing covering.....I'll let you know

thank you!
