Default Dare 049 Oriole

I just flew my newly built Oriole with a Norvel .061 engine. It turned out to be a real nice combination.

The kit was a real pleasure to build. All parts were die cut and just about fell off of the sheet. I was afraid that the wing might be too heavy with the D-Cell leading edge sheeting and cap strips. But, it turn out to be fine and the wing is strong. Total weight of the plane is 17.4 oz.

The engine had enough of power to do all basic aerobatics and when throttled back, it flew fine at a leisurely pace.

I had a .020 Oriole that would not fly on the small engine and going to a .049 made it a rocket. However, it was a bit boring with a short flying time before it ran out of fuel. This .049 kit with the Norvel .061 worked out good and is a pleasure to fly.

I have both kits that I am getting ready to build. What engine did you try on the .020 Oriole? I was going to use a TD .020. Also, since these kits were free flight designs, did you change the wing incidence and the engine thrust angles when converting to R/C?

I only had the 020 Pee Wee engine on it.

Both of my kits were designed for R/C, so I built them to plans.

My .020 Oriole was designed for free-flight. I am building it for R/C. The plans call for dihedral of one wing tip up 4 1/2". I was wondering what your R/C version plans called for.
Thanks,
Chris

Sorry, I don't have the plans nor the plane anymore. However, my 049 wings are set at 3" with a 36" wing span.
