Just received some inserts from Merlin Glow Plugs that fit the Cox and Norvel .049, .051 , .061 engines. They have the flat wound element like the old Glo Bee plugs. Looks like a great way to improve the compression by eliminating the element hole. He sent me 2 heat ranges, hope to get some testing done weather permitting.

I got a few of the Norvel/Cox Merlin plugs but havne't been able to set aside the time to give them a running test.

However, my intial impressions of them are very good - they are made from steel and are very well made. I do know that others have been running them but as of yet I have not heard a single bad or indifferent report - no news is good news I suspect.

Sorry Ihave been busy with a move.
Iwas able to give a brief test and Isee the Merlin heads givig excellent performance equal to or greater than the original Cox heads.
Merlin claims 1000 rpm over the stock Cox standard head and my tests agree.

The Merlin 1/2a Drop In plugs work very good in our Cox engines. So good I have become a dealer of them. And at less than $5 a plug you just can't beat it. I was asking about the new Merlin flat coil drop in plug. I have not had a chance yet to test myself and just wondered if Jeff had tested his yet.

Oh, I heard of those being developed but wasn't aware they are now available. I will have to get a couple to compare and to compare against the Nelson of similar design.

I will have to tuck that tid bit of info aside (that Tim is a source for the Merlin Cox plugs) for future reference.

Are those Merlin drop-in plugs identical replacements for the old school Glo-Bee plugs?
Also, Has Merlin got the .020 drop-in plugs/adapter ready for sale yet?
I had talked to Al back in the Summer and he was working on them.
Love to buy some when they are available.

Ithink the .020 Cox project has stalled somewhat due to financial constraints. If he was to manufacture one it would be at a loss considering all the tooling and effort he would have to invest.
However Aldon has been know to supply plugs for the love of it so dont give up hope.
Iremember trying the flat coil plugs just briefly however Idont remember much about the test results. Probably a good thing since it it went poorly Iwould probably remember. I will get back to it as time permits, Ipromise.
However hints of a norvel .074 plug may be forthcoming. Along with a very limited number of head clamps, which you probably wont need much of anyway.

I ran their globee type on a TD .049 and got a 500 rpm increase over a stock TD .049 glow head.
