Default my scratchbuilt plane

this is a plane that I scratchbuilt...given its size it should have a .10 on it but I like em powerful so it has a .25...it has a 48"wingspan and weighs 3lbs. I have yet to fly it because it has been under construction since I decided to add ailerons at the last minute. so I built another wing and added them.

It looks good!
We may talk you into putting a .15 on it.
Small planes are .25 and under so it fits here ok.

That's a good idea to have the ailerons on a low wing plane.
One of the first planes I built was a Goldberg Skylark 56 with a low wing and a .19 McCoy for power. It didn't have ailerons. I didn't have any idea how to fly the plane and it almost flew away out over a creek bottom. When it finally came back(I don't know how) I nosed it down into a corn field because I didn't want to lose my radio system. It did a great job flying but that was its only flight. I was shaking so much I couldn't stand up after it crashed.

Default well...

it has a good bit of dihedral but I was gettn worried as to how well it would turn and how stable it would be...so I decided to add them to a new wing instead of cutting up the first one...I did however leave all the dihedral in the new wing in hopes that it may have some self leveling properties...may make inverted flight tricky though, only a flight will tell. maiden flight is this weekend.

Default well

kind of a long story...but here is the shortened version.I had a Superstar EP that I flew for about a month.nice plane but very short flights and I didn't want to spend big $$$ on electric stuff to improve it so I installed an OS 25 in it. AWSOME performance, unlimited vertical (until you said stop)and flew much faster than the electric with only 1/4 throttle.but I didnt reinforce the wing. and after about 30 flights I was gettn brave and doin stuff I shouldn't have been doing with it and folded the wing about half way down the right ring half at 100 ft up. so using what was left to draw plans, I made a new fuse and wing (tail was unharmed) and reinforced the wing with aluminum arrow shafts, added aluminum wing struts, stronger landing gear, removed all the covering from the old tail and got rid of the taped hinges and installed nylon pinned hinges, converted it to a bolt on wing design and basically did a complete structural redesign. that plane is the result. it actually is the same size as the low wing plane and has the same engine but is only 3 channel. I thought about adding ailerons but it doesn't need them...flies inverted well and does loops in its own length...it has over 40 flights on it and is a blast to fly. and has a 6 oz fuel tank so flights are in the 45 minute range for 1 tank.

Default my scratchbuilt plane

I had one of those SuperStar EP and it was heavy and underpowered. I didn't want to do all of those electric mods, I thought it would do well with a .25 on it ..... the glow version shoud be a better flyer.
I sold it last weekend. Listed it Sat. night on the forum, sold and delivered it Sun afternoon.
I thought it would be a good plane to fly out of my 5 acre yard, but it was too heavy to hand launch without killing my arm.

Default finally got the nerve to fly it!!!

flew perfect right from the beginning!I was shocked as this is my 1st plane design and I have no design training...balance was perfect, plenty of power, inverted flight was attained with just a tad of elevator...rolls, loops, vertical you name it...need to add a longer aileron servo arm to get more throw but flew great just the way it is...ready to start my next scratchbuilt project. here's a taste...still a lot to work out but will have an OS 25 FX on this one...kind of a modern/vintage fighter look to it...

That new design looks great!
It really looks good viewed full size.

You just never know what is going to happen on that first flight. Glad you had a good one.

You should name that plane ASAP! Case in point, about 10 years ago a neighbor came to the door with a bedraggled kitten, asking if it was ours. Of course it wasn't but we offered to look after it temporarily and just referred to it as baby kitty. I knew we were in trouble the first time we got a card from the vet addressed to 'Baby Kitty' that she was due for her shots. Now she gets mail from all sorts of places. The other day a letter addressed to Baby Kitty informed her that she had progressed to the final round of a sweepstakes. She must be smarter than she looks, we wonder what she is up to in the night. One thing in her favor, she likes to help my son work on his models.

Moral of the story: Name it while you still can.

BTW, Baby Kitty is a stupid name for a big fat cat.

The new design looks great! It really looks like a racer. You seem to have a really good eye for great looking designs. You're obviously skilled with 3DS Max too.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting some names. Here are a few that have a 30's racer ring to them.

Georgia Special
Georgia Bullet
Minor Solution
Minor Meteor

Default ya

its called "Kinetix 3D Studiomax" and it's fairly expensive as it is a 3d modeling and animation program (think the movie Toy Story) but it will make 3 view drawings (wire frame) that can be used as plans if enlarged but they are not exactly blueprints as one normally uses...I used it to design and build the white plane you see above though...wasn't hard to do but the program has a steep learning curve if you aren't familiar with 3d modeling...polygons, vertices and such.
