Ever wished you had a test and break-in stand that would fit a variety of your Cox engines?
Well, here it is:

RE: Cox 010 – 020 – 049 - 051 Test Stand
Thanks everyonel,
We have had many requests for this product, so we decided to develop and manufacture it.
Sales have been absolutely stunning! If they hold steady like this, we will have to order the next batch soon
Thanks to everyone for their support.

Although I have little interest in the test stand, I took the time to look over the site to see what has been added since I was last there...lotsa nice stuff there!

They look very impressive. Someone help me out - what is the notch for on the upper righthand corner of the mount. The only thing that comes to mind is clearance for the Tee Dee pressure tap.

RE: Cox 010 – 020 – 049 - 051 Test Stand
The test stand is a nice item to have if you need to run your Cox engines. I wish the holes were tapped out to at least 2-56. Trying to put the nuts on the inside of the test stand is a pain for my short fat fingers (especially out in the field). I lost a few 2-56 nuts out in field. I am planning on roughing up the inside of the test stand and using J-B Weld or PC-7 and epoxy the nuts on the inside of the test stand for later use. I see the problem for international use that some people would use metric screws and some would use American Standard. So I guess Cox just had the holes set up for clearance use. Anyway the test stand is a welcome item.

Jct049,
Thanks for posting the picture as well as for your comments.
You are absolutely correct re. the small clearance to install the nuts. We experimented with this quite a bit and, for one, it was a compromise between the accessability of the needle valve and the clearance for the nuts. A fine balance had to be found. The other issue was spacing the holes in order to accommodate all the engines from 010 to 051.
It was a bit of a challenge and the end result was certainly a compromise. The question we had to resolve was "more engines/more difficult to install the nuts" and "less engines/easier to install the nuts". The latter thought won.
Tapping the holes we were advised against by the manufacturer due to the threads stripping over time; the material being only 1/8th" thick. The other issue was that a full 50% of our sales are to countries that use metric screws. And correct, the holes were made slightly oversize to accomodate metric screws as well as slight mounting hole irregularities on modeller's engines.
Jbirnsch,
Yes, helicoil/PEM inserts would have worked fine. However, please see reasons above. The other issue would have been cost. When something is made by a CNC machine, pricing can be reasonable. Extra steps after that really add to the cost and we were trying to bring a good product to market for under $20.
Cheers

I think you've made great choices - the standard/metric issue would be a big one, and so would be the stripping of the aluminum over time. Folks would probably end up drilling out the holes anyway! All those helicoils or PEM inserts would be hand operations, and I'm sure the price would end up at a point where no one would be wanting to buy one!
We all just need to get a youngster involved in the hobby, they've got smaller fingers..
Neat product, thanks for the work it took to get it to the market!

Will this stand allow mounting the TD .010 and .020 with the backplate mounts, or do they have to have fuel tanks attached?

DeviousDave,
The test stand will fit the Cox Tee Dee 010 and Tee Dee 020 engines with the tanks as well as with only the mounting plates.
Cheers

Bernie, I have seen a thread for your wonderful mount in three different forums now and have been waiting for the inevitable to happen.
Someone out there is going to whine that the Norvel .049 and .061 won't fit! Or possibly will raise the question of WHY they don't fit. Pretty sure the regulars here know the answer.
Just a heads up for later when it is bound to happen! I think someone once said some wouldn't be happy if hung with a new rope!

RE: Cox 010 – 020 – 049 - 051 Test Stand
Robert,
That's funny.
However, we have a good excuse... we only sell Cox
We looked at making the stand fit 074 - 09 -15 but it was physically not feasible.
