Fuel Pickup Tube Question
 

Hello all,

I am trying to get some of my Blackwidows working right. The problem is the fuel pickup tube has gotten very hard over the years and needs to be replaced. I have the replacement tube but I do not have the knowledge/trick to make the tube stay at the center bottom of the tank. As far as I can tell with the new tube installed it sticks straight out, how do you get the bend in it to stay after you close it all up?

Might be a dumb question but I really can't figure it out, and is the spring inside the tube really neccesary?

Pat,

If you cut the tubing to it's correct length it will stay in place by itself if you bend it and wedge it into the bottom of the backplate itself.

When I replace the pickup tube, I usually cut the pickup end at an angle. When curved around, it won't sit flat against the backplate and block fuel flow.

Secondly, if your replacement tube (small ID silicon fuel tubing works fine) does not fit the fuel nipple tightly, it can pop off when bent back. If that's the case, you can take some unwaxed dental floss and tie a loop around the tubing, behind the nipple barb, to secure it.

I think the only certain way is to make up 3/32 aluminium tube for your fuel pickup and join to
backplate nozzle with your small bore. Any other way I have done it it's a bit of a guess that
pickup goes where you want it when assembling. John
