Pee Wee + SPI

Anyone tried to give a Pee Wee a taste of SPI?

RE: Pee Wee + SPI

I'm pretty sure they already have it?

RE: Pee Wee + SPI

I've just checked 5 of mine-covering about a 30 year production range-they ALL have SPI-and without miking them, it seems to be the same-about 0.015" -in each case. I suppose it is possible that the R/C version-with the rotating exhaust throttle -might have had the lower edge of the exhaust port raised to eliminate SPI-as was done with the QZ 049-but as I don't have an R/C Pee Wee I am not in a position to confirm this.
How much SPI is optimum is another matter-presumably, you could play with cylinder shims a la Kustom Kraftsmanship- to set up the engine for optimum timing-but I've never heard of anyone producing 020 cylinder shims. given the size of the Pee Wee, you'd need a proportionately thinner range of shims than those used on 049s...........

When I posted this I was looking at one of my old motors. I had another look today and found the cylinder was not screwed home.. It now has SPI... Thanks all..

.....I don't think Cox ever made a muffler for the Pee Wee. They did make a throttled version-with the same style of rotating baffle exhaust throttle used for the 049, 09 and 15 Medallions. These were not very common-and only appeared in the 80's or thereabouts. IIRC Davis Diesel (or it could have been Ace R/C) made a silicon rubber muffler which could be used on the Pee Wee, and an aftermarket muffler of soldered brass was offered in the UK in the late 1960's (probably as a result of the SMAE compulsory silencer rule)

Cox sold the Muffler Kit .020 engine part# 2620 for a retail price of about $3.75 according to the one I'm holding in my hand.
It's a minature version of the ones sold for the .049, .09, and .15 engines. It took me years to find one. Good Luck !!
