Sterling 1/2-A Minnie Mambo R/C

Nearing Completion of my rebuild, attached is a picture of my 1/2-A Sterling Minnie Mambo. 30 years ago, it was flown on single channel pulse proportional with magnetic actuator and a quick blip sequential Hi-Med-Lo back to Hi throttle servo, also known as Galloping Ghost. Only parts salvaged were the landing gear with ply bulkhead and the wing assembly. Cox reed valve with exhaust restrictor throttle has been replaced with a Norvel Big Mig .061 R/C. All that's left is to cover the fuselage and install the radio gear.

She's gonna be one hot performer with that Norvel on the nose!

It's nice to see an older model that can be brought up to date to serve on for another decade or more.

Did someone say Minnie Mambo?

Here's mine. Built earlier this year. Powered by a Surestart .049 with intake throttle from Cox Int.

Video footage of it playing around in the wind at this year's SMALL event in Little Rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6lb8UYmPBI

Nice looking plane, a fantastic flyer especially in the wind, a really sweet performer, Tee Bee.

Dave Fritzke has the plans for the Minnie Mambo on his web page at:
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/Minni...o-GeneRock.pdf

You might take a look at some of his other half A plans on his page:
http://my.pclink.com/~dfritzke/

It is a very useful page.

Someone has also uploaded it to Outerzone ( http://www.outerzone.co.uk/ ) and a search for Mambo gives this result:
http://www.outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=620
as the only result and is also the Minnie Mambo. If you have not seen Outerzone yet it is a very useful site with a lot of plans uploaded.

Thanks, but I've been to Outerzone.co.uk and to Dave Fritzke's site. For Minnie Mambo, I've got the original plans and took bulkhead measurements from my existing model prior to finality in a crash. I got the Mambo plans from John Pond's Plans while he was still alive. Found the bulkhead measurements by Googling. Regarding Dave's site, I've already saved all his plans to disc. He's done really well to preserve these planes.

Well, here's a picture of my Minnie Mambo the original prototype for Early RC Models. Silk and dope covered, a gazillion flights on my old trusty OK Cub .049 and Ace single channel Pulse Commander. I also attached a picture of my vintage fleet. All fly well with their original radios on 27 Mhz!!!!

Ah....... single channel....galloping ghost..... the only way to fly!!!!!

Way to go, Bob! Those are really nice lookers and a nice array of vintage gear to go with them! Last night I put a layer of Coverite Balsarite on the fuse of Minnie. She's just waiting now for the application of Coverlite (Polyspan), and finishing touches.
