My dad had a different tilt on that quote--

Geez Loiuse, $500? Now I wish I had hoarded a few .020's instead of .010's..

I wonder if I can get $200 for a lightly used Pee Wee?

ggeezer 01-08-2014 05:05 PM

I'm rich, I'm rich!!

These normally go for $80.00 to $100.00
I'm fortunate to have 6 NIB TD .020s and a bunch of slightly used ones on the shelf. I bought a bunch years ago when it was certain that Cox would no longer manufacture this engine. At the time, I was into .020 Replica Free Flight and thought that I should stock up. Over the years as my friends went to electric, I acquired more. I also have a number of .010s too.
I think I will hold on to them, seems like they are a better investment than my stocks and bonds.

Man, If I sell half of my collection I can retire!

CafeenMan 01-09-2014 04:13 PM

On the other hand, people may snap out of it and you miss your window if you don't sell now. :)

I have only one TD and it's never run. Somewhere along the line the plastic case cracked. It's a .051. I should look at fixing it before the case costs $500.00.

MJD 01-09-2014 06:22 PM

Git yourself one of those aluminum replacements from fleabay. $15-$16.

CafeenMan 01-09-2014 06:28 PM

Thanks. I don't see aluminum but I do see the plastic.

HighPlains 01-09-2014 07:29 PM

Yeah, I had 200 made in China complete with the crystal case for about $7 a pop, and been dolling them out about once a month for $200-500. Broke even in 5 months.

Oh boy, you're right.. I was looking at the .020 and .049 parts the other day and thought there were .010 versions too.. my bad.

The others are available on Cox International. Where's the .010 version..? ;-)

ffkiwi 01-10-2014 03:44 PM

I'd be very surprised if that sale goes through-looks like two idiots having a bidding war for the hell of it. The winning bidder e***e has only 3 feedbacks-that should set off alarm. bells.....the losing bidder over 3000-so something smells distinctly fishy to me-shill bidding? A put up job? Or stupid is as stupid does?

I'm with Orv on this one-the usual price is USD 80-120.....

Even if it is a put on I'm guessing that at least one of the last of the bidder's is for real. And that still puts the cost WAY over the top.

We seem to be at a peak for this sort of nonsense. And I suspect it'll go on for a few more years. But consider that these things are only worth top dollar to those that think they need one so badly. As the electric power revolution replaces glows in use those of us that grew up seeing things like the TD .010 and .020 as desirable is going to fade. And one day folks will look at these same NIB engines and say" that's cute. But I can't see paying $30 for something that useless".

This WILL happen as us old codgers that cut our teeth during the heyday of the small glow engines die off and there are less around that lust after such things.

MJD 01-14-2014 11:53 AM

Considering that recently they have been going on eBay for more like $175.00, this whole transaction is suspect.

So true about the desirability of these engines.. I lust after them because (a) they are way cool as we all know, and (b) as an impressionable youth of 4-8 years old I used to idolize my big brother and his FF/RC antics using a variety of .010/.020/049 engines. So huge nostalgia factor for me, on top of the fun factor. The first engine I ever got was a Pee Wee as a birthday gift, and a CG Ranger 30 to go with it.. man was I excited that morning! But no CA in 1969.. a hyperactive kid and slow drying cement are like oil and water.

Thanks! The link is for a .010 but I found what I needed using the seller you provide. I've got one on order. I really appreciate it!

One more item crossed off my list. I have few other engines needing parts as well but I don't know what engines or what parts. I picked up several kits and engines at a yard sale from a guy who had quit the hobby long prior. One day I'll look at the engines and hopefully be able to find the parts. None of the engines are that great or worth anything though. I think they're almost all Fox CL engines from the 70's and an Enya .09 I believe.

Steve Westphal 01-14-2014 04:18 PM

I guess I had better hang onto my bag of .010's and .020's

MJD 01-14-2014 05:18 PM

I thought you were looking for an .010 carb body?

Now that I found them I will order a couple, and I like those aluminum backplates too.

WOW now that guy just had to have that particular engine I spose. Its a relative thing, price/desire, the 010 is getting rare and I bet the new owner probably wont be running it. I saw a peewee 020 new in the bubble pack go for $229 on ebay not long ago. I don't collect but I do have a few dozen engines that I purchased and intend to run and fly a plane. Some may see that as an excess, its relative to my desire.

It's fun hoarding engines. I'm a rookie compared to many. This is the 1/2A & thereabouts drawer.

I could use a couple of .020 parts. Anybody with any extra please email me at [email protected]
