BIG UGLY STICK AND DLE 20
Well I have been out of RC for about 25yrs and when I read about the 2.4 systems I figured it was time to get back in. LUCKY I still had some of my planes. This Stick is the last thing I was building when I stopped flying. I sold some of old engines and radios and purchased a Futaba 10c and of course a DLE 20. While I was finishing my Stick and my first attempt with gas I was getting my wings back flying a 4 Star 40 with a OS 46AX. Well I finished he stick and it fly's great. I found out one day when was flying the 4Star and just breaking in the DLE20. I decided to taxi around. RIGHT I didn't even get to half throttle when a bump got me airborne. It was climbing so good that I said "what the heck" and just flew around a little. After trimming out I did some low passes. I had programed Flaperons so I tried them too. It flies so slow yo can walk faster.
There are a few modification made to the STICK
1. Larger control surfaces (aileron and elevator)
2. Servo trays taken out to make room for fuel tank and radio RX
3. Added another firewall behind the original one and put wooded dowel pins in
4. Extended landing gear down and larger wheels for prop clearance
5. Beefed up landing gear (welded angles on bottom of gear)
I am using a APS 14x10 and a 15X8 and the vertical is unbelievable. RPM 8900 and pulls 13 to 14 pounds of thrust. I can't hover too good YET but I had a guy at the field try, who flies a YAK with a DA 170, and it looked easy. It almost flies too fast at half throttle and the snaps and flat spins will scar you the first few times.
Here are a few pictures
A 10oz tank will fly 42 minutes, which is normally a long time on other glow engines
If the landing gear work out I will clean it up and shine it to match the True Turn Spinner.
