Default RE: Jack Stafford Cessna 120/140

Not sure if anyone is monitoring this thread, but I have purchased the C-120/140 Stafford kit from a friend and R/C and Full-Scale C-140 owner in Kalamazoo, MI. I'll be finishing my C-140 off to match my friends C-140 (photo attached).

For power, I have a fairly new DLE-30 that I plan on using. I've also purchased a fiberglass cowl from Fiberglass Specialties. I'd really like to be able to emulate the corrugated aluminum on the rudder, elevators, flaps and ailerons, but the "Sig" material is no longer being made. I have seen some use strips of hardwood, balsa or even plastic. Wondering how well that works if you do anything other than fiberglassing the ship (such as Monokote or Solartex). Any thoughts out there?
