Forget the soldering guns and the micro torches you need a soldering iron with a large heat sink so that your work does not suck all the heat out of the iron when you use it. This is probably the best one out there of all of them.

That's similar to what I use. For cleaning up the joint after soldering, I find a small wire brush (or even a toothbrush) works well. This is also a nice test: If your joint falls apart during a good scrubbing, it's a bad joint!
