RE: Lost Spitfires located!
The P-38s have been located and at least one of them has been recovered. I think that there is a Liberator there, too.
They are about 100 down, embedded in the ice of a glacier. Squashed.
IIRC, they were on a ferry flight and forced-landed after running out of fuel.
Somewhere, there is a TV documentary explaining the recovery process. In essence, a vertical shaft was created by melting the ice.
Interesting story and a remarkable achievement ... though I can't really see the fascination with rebuilding old warplanes.
