Default RE: PARKZONE'S NEW ALBATROS D. Va

HOT WEATHER WITH VARIABLE AND TURBULENT WIND FLYING CONDITIONS

The first two of five flights were fairly uneventful yesterday. Of the five landings, one was very nice, two were rough but ended up with the plane on its wheels and tail skid, one ended up on its nose and wheels, and one (blush) ended with the flying machine on its back.

Twitchy airplane behavior began on the third flight as the temperature began to rise to around 90 degrees. A WWII fighter tip stalled left from about 30 feet altitude and went straight in during the festivities and will be reported on it's thread after some testing to see if it's problem(s) have been cured.

The key to victory under lower air density inherent in hotter air conditions with lots of up drafts, down drafts, and suddenly shifting wind direction is to fly faster than normal. Twitchiness can be very disconcerting when you are not use to it. On the fourth flight I landed early and shifted the battery forward to see if a further forward CG would help. The CG shift made little difference. Speed is life under such conditions. Larger, heavier, faster models are gaining in appeal, though my bias is still for smaller, lighter, slower machines due to safety and modeling promoting cost concerns.

Click "Ratings" on the first page of this forum to bring up a large group of Ace fighter planes.

Out.
