Default RE: Picco .80 FIRE pattern engine

ORIGINAL: Yak13

So back to the original post. Any of you guys have an opinion regarding the Picco .80 RE (pattern)?

Same as your Rossi, I think it will make it's peak power around the 13K to 14K RPM range. Back when those two engines were in, the pattern guys would set them up to spin big props around the 10K range. They were just starting to get noise sensitive and the best way to reduce noise was run lower RPMs. Running a 12X12 or 13X12 on that engine was common. You can get to the 14K range by running a shorter pipe and smaller prop. As always getting the most out of the setup will require some experimentation and will end up being a combination that has the airframe, prop and pipe working together. Not much unlike a car where the gear ratio, cam specs and car weight are considered.
