That's most likely how the end user would look at it as the most fairest way. But the person providing the deliverables would most likely look at it as how much time it "costs" them. The agreement/contract for the materials plus completion fee would force the builder to stay on schedule or they will loose money, so to speak if the handoff of the deliverable is delayed. I'd say the simple trading of goods for the service is most likely a very good "contract" for this type of work, say "if your interested, I'll pay for all the materials and for your time and work I'll give you my other r/c bird if you can build me this new r/c bird".
