Default RE: GP F-4 Phantom

Hi Stykaas.

MY Phantom is a dog!!!! a slow dog...

The engine seems to perform well, but the drag on this aircraft is MASSIVE!
It will never fly as I would like it too :-(

I have tried 11 diferent size propellers, and have not come further :-(

from 11x11 props to 14x12. It realy needs the 14" prop for the pulling power. The engine realy performs well on the 11x11....if only it had weighed 2kg`s less ,and much more aerodynamicly clean.

Just too bad.... Speed realy bleeds off when doing fairly tight turns, and it drops like a rock when power is cut. It does some realy neat nose high landings. It comes in to land quite fast. And it need lots of elevator. Flaring out just before touchdown eats up the whole 1" of elevator movement. 1" on a fill flying stab is a lot!

I even opened up the intakes and exhaust to let air pass through the fuselage. The manual said it would increase speed.....I could not see the difference :-(
The plane weighs 4,6kg`s about 10 lb`s
