Don't stick your fingers in the prop.
FWIW, a lot of guys don't use prop cages including myself. If you insist on it, You will need to find some sort of wire that can be soldered or twisted together. The first thing that comes to mind would be brass rod in a small diameter... It solders nicely, but it's very heavy.
